27 weeks and found the tiniest brown stain in my knickers...

...I realise that sounds ridiculous but am rhesus negative hence the post otherwise would think nothing about it. Sorry for the TMI in this post.

Wearing white knickers today and went to the toilet. There is the usually staining from the lovely CM that I have had a lot of throughout my pregnancy so far and then in the centre of that is the tiniest light brown mark that is fairly set into the fabric (ie not wet).

When wiping it's just normal clear CM on the paper, I have had no bleeding at all. It's def not poo! I've had no pains or cramps.

Unsure what to do as I don't want to have anti-D for no reason and it's such a small spot (maybe 6x2mm at the most) - but is this something to be concerned about from a rhesus neg point of view?

I had something similar a few weeks ago at 17 weeks (am also rh -ve)

The thing is it's impossible to tell without more investigation where the bleeding is coming from and how much of it there is internally. You'd only need anti D if it was coming from your uterus (not your cervix) and if there was more than a miniscule amount.

The safest course is to speak to your midwife. They may scan you or look at your cervix to see if they can identify the source/amount. Or (and this is what happened in my experience) they may just give you anti D anyway without any further investigation "to be on the safe side".

The chances are that it isn't a sign of a bigger internal bleed - but only you can decide if you want to take that chance!

Thanks minipie. I phoned and they said it didnt sound like anything to worry about and to keep an eye if I notice any more. If it was blood it must have been the tiniest amount so hopefully nothing to worry about

i went into hosp for c/up this morning as had this for 3 days in a row, quick fetal movement check (all fine) and look with a speculum which showed i have a cervical erosion also known as ectropion i think. very commmon in pregnancy its just like a llittle ulcer on the cervix. midwife said not to worry if brown blood recurrs but to ring if any fresh blood or clots in future.

Littler1 - are you rhesus negative?

I had a cervical erosion before pregnant which they found at my last smear. Possibly could still have it I suppose. But it was literally the TINIEST mark.

Could it possibly be a spot or a cut?

nope rh +ve, but as i understand it bleeding from the cervix (if thats what yours is) would not affect the baby. It does sound likely source if you had an erosion already. I would take the MW advice and monitor for now, phone them back if it persists or you are worried. The check up only took about 40mins and wasn't too unpleasant so if you are worried then best to get checked.
