I have had a few and it's usually from 6 weeks

WigWamBam · 08/03/2006 19:29

I was able to see a "bean" and a heartbeat at 5 weeks from an ordinary scan (they thought I was 8 weeks, hence the standard scan) so I would imagine you'd see at least that from a vaginal one.

They will be able to identify the sack and whether there is a foetus in there. I think they can see a heartbeat from 5 or 6 weeks.

Unlikely to see a hb at that many weeks - sorry.
More usual from 6/6.5 weeks, sometimes even later
They will be able to see a sac (blob) that is identifiable as a pregnancy.
Good luck!

OK WWB is an exception!!

Piffle · 08/03/2006 19:30

My OBGYN says they do not do tv scans until 6 weeks due to not wanting to raise/dash hopes if they cannot see anything.
But if they suspect ectopic then they will scan earlier.

spinach · 08/03/2006 19:31

oh well, maybe they'll see something then, they'll be doing my hcg levels again so as long as they are still going up i'll be happy, may have to wait till the following week for a hb then!

thanks piffle, they did suspect a tubal abortion on sat, have spent 4 days in itu... but yesterday they said i was still preg and that it was something else that had caused the prob, hence why i'm going back for another scan. they scanned me on sat and think they saw a sack in the womb, but not sure as they were looking for ectopic at the time... its been a confusing week.

Just to concur with the other posters, they should be able to see a sac and foetal pole at around 5 weeks. The heartbeat is not usually picked up until 6-7 weeks.

Good luck Smile

spinach · 08/03/2006 19:35

whats a pole?

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 08/03/2006 22:14

Sorry spinach, a foetal pole is the term givin to teh miniscule cluster of cells which will develop into the foetus.

TearsBeforeBedtime · 09/03/2006 06:12

sac by 5 weeks
foetal pole by 6 weeks
heartbeat by 8 weeks. (might see heartbeat earlier).

best of luck.
