How quick to 12 week scans come through?

This is my first and I am 8 + 5 wks pregnant. Have a GP appt on Tuesday to tell them I am pregnant and then assume I will get a midwife appt and a scan date?

I was thinking it didn't matter when I went in and booked in, you get a midwide appt at 10 weeks and a scan at 12 weeks, but have I left it too late?

I have been holding on thinking just a few more weeks till scan, now I am worried it will be ages.

A friend had a mmc which they spotted on her 12wk scan, now very paranoid about things like that and want the scan asap!

Am I being a baby??

Of course you're not being a baby! I think it depends on the authority. My last pregnancy I was sent a letter with the scan date within a week of booking in with my midwife.

It varies from hospital to hospital, but they'll know that you need the scan before 13w to do certain measurements. I had a scan at about 10w (wasn't sure of dates) then was re-booked for another one 3w later. And that's in a busy London hospital. So if you're seeing the GP at about 9w, it should be plenty of time for them to get your scan booked.

There should be plenty of time, especially as they know your dates already, but you can always give the mw's at the hospital a call once your paperwork has been sent through just to check what is happening. I did this as I thought I was 10w pregnant (they rushed me through, had a scan within the fortnight, and then... only 8w pregnant at the scan Blush)

I saw the midwife on the Thursday and the scan appointment came in the post the next Wednesday. It may be different in your area but it should be fine.

They normally in my area do the 10w when they come and ask you questions weight etc.

Then they send it out i waited roughly 3 weeks.. I had the downs test so that why i waited.

Then they booked me in for my 20w at my 13w scan.

It will feel like forever but it does go quickly nearer the time :)

My midwife called the antenatal suite during my 10 wk appt and booked my 12 wk scan there and then. It must differ from hospital to hospital

Mrsb999 · 04/08/2012 17:25

Well I called and left details with midwife last Thursday and yesterday got a letter through with details of my 8 wk appointment with the midwife and then today the date for my 12 week scan came through!

I'm currently 6 wks pg

panicnotanymore · 04/08/2012 17:38

It depends how far along you are when you first see the midwife. My local authority is beyond rubbish so I will be 11 weeks when I first see mine. She has said I have to remind her at the appointment to call there and then to book the 12 week scan. Normally they'd do it later and notify by post.

bonzo77 · 04/08/2012 17:41

You might be able to self refer to your hospital. Mine has a form you down load and either email or post back to them.

Moominsarescary · 04/08/2012 17:43

My scan date came through a week after seeing the mw and was for 2 weeks time so scan was 3 weeks after mw appointment.

Didn't get in to see the mw till 10+ weeks though

Moominsarescary · 04/08/2012 17:46

Would have been 13+5 by the time I had the scan do I rang them and they gave me an earlier appointment

kidcrayola · 04/08/2012 18:47

I'm 10 weeks. I saw my GP at 6 weeks. My scan appt came through about a week ago and I'll be 13+ weeks when I have the scan. I haven't had my midwife appt through though - I may give them a ring if I haven't heard from them though as im going on holiday at the end of next week.

sundaesundae · 07/08/2012 11:06

Went to GP this morning and she is going to do my referral as I am going away on 31st and really need it before then. She was very helpful, but feeling very fraudy as I don't feel so direly pregnant today!

at my 10 wk appointment with the midwife, she called the hospital and booked it over the phone for me so I knew straight away. I then got a letter to confirm :) All very easy x
