Bruising on Bump - what will people think?

This week I've had workmen come to my house to fit my kitchen, they put boxes in the doorway between the living room and the kitchen. About 3 times they called me into the kitchen and I rushed through bumping my bump on the sharp door handle as I went into the kitchen as the opening was so narrow and my belly is so big.

I'm not worried about the actual bruising/baby as it was more of a scratch on the skin and not actually a bang to the bump, but the bruising looks terrible.

I showed my friend today and she said it looks awful.

I have a scan and consultant appointment on Monday and I'm so worried as to what they may think.

I've always bruised easily, so everything looks much worse than it actually is. I've had testing for it before when I was a teen as I used to bruise so much and my parents were worried and I'm hoping that it is still on my medical notes.

Am I worrying over nothing? My MW knows me from my previous baby and knows we are are a happy family, decent etc - but the consultant has not met us before.

Are they used to people with bruising, I'm guessing it must be fairly common as people are not used to having such big bellies, so bump into things.

I doubt they'll think anything. I am always forgetting where my bump is and bashing it! We can't be alone in this. After all you know where your edges are for years and suddenly you need an extra foot of clearance, hardly surprising if it gets bashed now and again! Grin

p.s Ouch! that must have hurt!

BigBumpBessie · 04/08/2012 12:58

It did hurt and I didn't want to make a fuss in front of the fitters but the pain was nothing like how awful it looks, more like a sting if you know what I mean. Thanks!

Oh I did the same on our door handle the other night, it actually went into my belly button - the pain! I am the opposite though and don't bruise easily at all do nothing to show. I'm sure medical people have seen it before

Thanks Hermione - that sounds nasty!

I burnt my bump with the iron with DS1, I didn't realise how big I was! It was really red and angry looking but didn't hurt too much, the consultant just laughed and said maybe it was time for DH to take over ironing duties......

Ooh ouch Jo.

Don't worry about it. I had a really bad fall at 38 weeks pregnant and landed straight on my bump as my hands were full so couldn't stop myself. My bump was bruised all over and hurt to touch but it was only the MW that saw it and she was the one that checked me over when I fell so knew all about it.
