Hello all,

I just found our yesterday that I am pregnant! I am so, so happy as have been trying! I am due to do 'Go Ape' with colleagues on Tuesday but not sure if I should cancel...and what could my excuse be?

It is a course that you go around in the tree tops whilst wearing a 'step in' harness. The people at Go Ape said it was up to me?

I have no idea what I should do. I really don't want to risk a miscarriage.

Any advise gratefully received!

they say you can go but it's up to you
first pregnancy I cancelled a go ape, this time I went during y 2WW and felt an eejit for cancelling the first time. IMO I could definitely have gone in early pregnancy

its not strenuous, its not even exercise! and you can skip individual ones that you don't like the look of

littlemisssunshine3 · 04/08/2012 13:10

I would still go while you still can.......its fun and unless you are planning on throwing yourself off the course from a great height then there should be no problem.

I may of course be wrong and I am sure that there are people on here that would disagree with me but I was drinking, eating the wrong stuff and flying( being dragged along on my face mostly) big kites and was riding a sports bike up until I could no longer fit into my protective gear. Now I bake cakes to get my adrenaline rush. Its not quite the same :(

Thank you SilkySmith.

I am just do excited about that positive result and still don't quite believe it!

I suppose it should all be snuggled up in there and can not get 'knocked out' so should be fine. Just all so new to me!

I should add that I stopped drinking and eating when I found out I was pregnant......Just in case you think that I am some kind of lush and a terrible parent :0

I went OTT with not doing stuff first time round and it made for a long hard labour that ended in CS, plus a VERY difficult time finding the strength and energy to look after a new born because I gained so much weight and let my muscles pretty much waste away for fear of doing ANYTHING

  • go, get some fresh air and fun! it'll be great for both you and the baby!
SMCookie · 04/08/2012 13:17

Thank you both so much, I am looking forward to it now! I have no one I can talk to yet so I really appreciate you replying.

Also means I don't have to tell wok/make something up, I am a terrible liar!

I went during the 2WW last time when I was fairly sure I was pregnant. Did everything and had a great time. My 18 month old, who was that bundle of cells, is absolutely fine. She does have a worrying love of climbing and flinging herself off stuff though. Wink

I went to Go Ape at about 6wks pg with my DD. I had no qualms about it at all - the embryo is well-protected & if the safety harness failed, I think the damage to me would be far, far worse!! I wouldn't go when I was beyond 12wks or so when the uterus is rising above the pelvic girdle & possibly affects the fit/efficacy of the harness.

It's great though - have fun!! :)

I didn't find out I was pregnant until week 7, and up to that time was doing very intensive interval training, circuits, swimming, and 10km runs. This obviously was a bad idea, but it goes to show that you'll be fine with something less strenuous.

At 6 weeks i didn't know I was PG, but had all the symptoms to say I was, and did everything i shouldn't have. Got drunk, jumped into a plunge pool, jaccuzzi and went down some made rapids on my tummy... baby is 29 weeks now and doing good :) I think if it were me, I'd do it knowing what I've already done and like another poster said, at that size the baby is very well protected.

I drove a formula 3 car at 10 weeks and very fast track cars thrown about- no side effects apart from my happiness at all!

SMCookie · 05/08/2012 19:02

Oh thank you all so much!

I came on to re-read the previous comments for re assurance and there were more! I really appreciate it. I think I am 4 weeks pregnant...probably just cells at this point?!

I look forward to Going Ape!
