As I know NOTHING about babies, I reccon my subconscious is trying to prepare me abit through the medium om dreams Wink for three days I have been dreaming of nappy changes, bedtime routines and breastfeeding...maybe time to take the hint and get one of those books that will explain a thing or two..Smile as i made some horrendous mistakes even in my dreams..Shock

I've been having these too. DH and I realised a few weeks ago that neither of us has ever held baby let alone changed a nappy etc. I figured it would click when she arrived. My friend came over yesterday with her 3 month old, I was nervous about it and fully planned to say no thanks if she offered a cuddle. Anyway, she arrived, got him out the car and handed him straight to me say can you just hold him a sec! I loved it! Felt really natural and he almost fell asleep, didn't want to give him back! I feel much better about things just working out now :)

Just remember that the baby won't have read the books Grin I know it's a cliché but I know some friends who found it really hard as their newborn wasn't behaving how they thought/wasn't settling into the routine they expected. I didn't read any books (other than pregnancy ones). I'd never held a baby, never changed a nappy etc, and I think it was actually pretty beneficial to ignore the books - there's always mumsnet if you need any advice!!

The antenatal classes I did showed us how to change a nappy, bath a baby etc, then shown again once DS was born. You really do just learn as you go :)

Ahh, Rockchick, had a flick through some "information" on the web today and I have come to the conclusion, that I will let nature take its course..there seemed to be so much conflicting advice that it made me more confused than before..
Plus as I have bred and trained horses and dogs for the las 20 years i reccon I have some caring side and cannot be completely off kilter when it comes to training "things"...que horrified gasp from alpha mums, that think I must be mad to compare a baby to a foal....Wink...dont get me started on animal versus baby chat...the amount of times i have heard that we will HAVE to sell the animals as there is NO WAY it is safe with a baby around...Hmm

I dreamt about baby care in my first pregnancy. The dreams included things like leaving the baby in a cardboard box in the garden in the rain, just making sure the box was well-padded with a nice blanket Hmm Luckily reality did not reflect my dream-mummy persona!

Lol, I'm about to start potty training DS, and I've had loads of people tell me it's exactly the same as housetraining a puppy - must be ok to make the comparisons with a toddler, just not with a baby Grin

AKMD..LOL...I took mine to get acrylic nail extensionsShock an a wig fitted...and then wrapped it in clingfilm before feeding it...hence I got a tad worried and thought I better get a book Wink then again, as both me and my BF cannot exactly be described as "normal" people any conventional baby rules may not apply to our offspring...hihi

Rockchick...hahaha...maybe it is..I just think that my animals and that includes a 6 year old Spanish stallion is far better behaved than most children I come across, so i must be doing something right..
