4mm foetal pole but no heartbeat - is there any chance this will be ok?

Apologies as I do have a thread running in the miscarriage section, but I wondered if anyone on here had any more knowledge or advice?

I had a scan last Thursday at 8+1 after a very small amount of spotting (just a few drops) and some stomach and backache. The scan apparently suggested that I was about 6 weeks pregnant - with a 4mm foetal pole, 17mm (I think) sac that was a good shape and no sign of what had caused the bleeding.

Having googled loads I was reassured that I could be about 6wks pregnant as I do ovulate late and if implantation was slow then its just about possible. But obviously the heartbeat is more difficult to explain away. I had an external and internal scan as I have a retroverted (tilted) uterus so hard to see clearly - although he did see the foetal pole etc on the external scan.

So has anyone been in this position and had a good outcome. I've been trying for 1.5years to get pregnant, so this feels devastating. I have another scan on Monday, but don't know if I should keep trying to keep my hopes/spirits up or accept that its not going to end well.

I know that sometimes they're unable to establish a heartbeat until 7ish weeks. Really hope it works out for you.

Oh leeloo, I feel for you.
The awful thing is no-one can say whether or not it is ok, even though waiting until Monday seems forever.

I have had it both ways - had a 7mm foetal pole that unfortunately became a mmc, but later (after a second mc) I had an early scan and had a 5mm pole that is now 3 1/2 yo ds!

Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks both of you. Spice17 that does give me hope if you can't always see a hb until 7weeks. I read something last night that said as soon as you see a foetal pole you should see a hb and (after not sleeping much) this morning I felt so awfully depressed thinking it was all over. :(

Jackstini - you're completely right and in my heart I do know that even if it worked out for someone else it may well not work for me. I think I'm just trying to keep myself going til I find out for sure at the scan - when hopefully it'll measure 7+4 (I think? About 6wks +11 days?) and be big enough to see a hb.

This waiting is just so hard.

Hi Leeloo1, Hope you dont mind me bringing up your thread again...its just I'm in the same position you were in a few weeks ago, had a scan on Friday and basically told the same thing....about the Fetal Pole with no heartbeat....am sooo down about it all, as I think this is the end.....I was 7+7 at my scan on friday and there was still no sign of heartbeat so was told to come back next Friday for D&C.....am desperately hoping the midwife just couldn't read the scan right....seen this thread......was wondering how you got on.....hope you dont mind me asking????

Frankly
