Stretch marks - did you get them and at what point did they appear?

Am 26+4. So far, so good on the stretchmark front BUT I'm pretty sure I will get them. I have them on my thighs from puberty, they've faded a lot now but I remember them being awful when they first appeared.

I guess only a few a lucky enough to avoid them - are you one of them?
If you did get them, when did they appear?

Hate to say this but mine appeared at around 25-26 weeks from nowhere. I also had them previously anyway but gutted to get red, angry new ones :( Not sure if the oil I was using made me have less than I would have done but have almost given up bothering now!

Mintyy · 02/08/2012 17:04

About week 39. Under the bump only, and not too bad, but was a bit gutted as I thought I'd got away with it!

Purplelooby · 02/08/2012 17:05

Euk yes. I'm afraid they only developed at around 30 weeks and I didn't truly notice them because my bump is in the way. I do have a very tight bump though so you might be OK. The truth is that I think all evidence suggests that nothing can be dine to prevent them... Just think of them as tattoos in honour of your pregnancy. My wierd DH seems to kind of like them.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/08/2012 17:13

About 38 weeks concentric rings around belly button

dozensofpichu · 02/08/2012 17:16

At 5 days overdue- I felt like I was ready to burst by this point! Didn't get any more in second pregnancy though.

MayimBialik · 02/08/2012 17:16

purplelooby I think you're right about nothing can be done to prevent them. I've only just started putting cream on my bump but I strongly suspect it is all for nothing. Helps with the tight feeling though

Same as Mintyy. Thought I was home free till DH pointed them out under a different light. Everything seems to have shrunk back though just a little bit looser under belly button. I was religious about bio-oil. Don't know if this helped or the fact DM was the same with me.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 02/08/2012 17:27

I got to 39 weeks without one then in the last week and a bit I got thousands Sad

HipHopSkipJumpomous · 02/08/2012 17:30

I have them on my thighs from puberty too OP but I have no tummy SM from 2 PG's. I was 9 days over with DD1 and 6 with DD2.

I took fish oils throughout PG's and rubbed belly with grape seed oil (with neroli & mandarin essential oils) - lovely. Not sure if this stopped me from getting SM's or not though. How can you possibly tell?

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 02/08/2012 17:33

Same as pinkchampagne I had none at all til really late on and the suddenly got loads. Apparently my mum was just the same. I bio-oiled religiously too, so think it is mainly down to your genes.

utopian99 · 02/08/2012 17:43

I'm only 21 weeks and so far nowt, but am dreading finding them. That being said my mother never got any and I can vouch for that (we have a very 'frank and open' family Blush) so I'm praying it's genetic.

Oh, and she said she used to rub olive oil into the bump. So far I've not got to that stage yet!!

emsyj · 02/08/2012 18:52

I used moisturiser on my bump because it was itchy, but I didn't want to scratch (I'm sure I read in some glossy mag somewhere that scratching makes stretch marks worse or something Confused).

I didn't get them during pregnancy even though I have them on my boobs and thighs from puberty but I think this was because DD was born at 37 weeks. Most of the mums I know have said they got theirs during the final 2 weeks, or when they went overdue. I think if I had carried DD to 40+ weeks I would have got some.

GTbaby · 03/08/2012 00:43

I'm 27 weeks and got them about 3 weeks ago. Fading quickly though.

Hpbp · 03/08/2012 05:22

First pg, one or two appeared at 38 weeks on the left side, it looked very much alike the puberty ones. 4 years later, I can still feel under my fingers that the fat(?) has broken and sunken a bit but the skin color is even so it is not very noticeable.
For this second pg, no new stretch mark at all. Just gave birth at 39+4.
For both pg, the weight gain was 16 kg but bump was very different shape wise.

I reckon that the nature of the skin and genetics play the biggest role as I did not use any specific cream.

greenbananas · 03/08/2012 07:02

I got away with it in my first pregnancy - none at all, even though my mum and sister have loads. I started using cheap baby lotion on my belly at only 5 weeks pregnant, in the hope that well-moisturised skin would be more resilient, but didn't use any pricey creams at all. It worked!

Currently 26 weeks with DC2 and have been back on the baby lotion for months now. Looking good so far... but we shall see...

TeaandHobnobs · 03/08/2012 07:06

Mine suddenly appeared at 31 weeks, but only under the bump.

DH says it looks like I've been mauled by a tiger Hmm

NellyBluth · 03/08/2012 07:10

I was gloating, I made it all the way to delivery with no stretchmarks, DP and I were congratulating my otherwise shockingly bad skin for coping so well... and then they appeared after I have birth! Six months later they have faded a lot.

kaymondo · 03/08/2012 09:16

Got mine at around 36 weeks with DS despite using bio oil everyday. Now 36 weeks with DC2 and original ones have just spread a bit. I think I can safely say that my bikini days are behind me!

IME it comes down to genetics - my DM got loads as did I. Friends whose DM's didn't get any have got away with it too.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 03/08/2012 09:21

31 weeks and none yet, but I'm expecting them - my bump is soooo tight I'm in mild discomfort agony if I skip my bio-oiling, which isn't a good sign!

CreepyCrawly · 03/08/2012 09:29

This thread isn't giving me much hope! I'm nearly 17 weeks and have a few tiny ones round my belly button.

NoWayNoHow · 03/08/2012 09:32

Mine only appeared at 34 weeks, and then became inflamed and itchy (something about my DS's male DNA reacting with my female DNA!) so they've scarred quite badly Sad

BionicEmu · 03/08/2012 11:36

I had DS at 34 weeks, and had no stretch marks at that point, thought I'd got away without getting them. But then about 10 days after he was born they all popped up! Not fair!

greenbananas · 03/08/2012 13:48

Those of you who got stretch marks after your babies were born - how unfair!! Sad

NellyBluth · 03/08/2012 14:33

I know! I was SO annoyed! But I think it was revenge for being so smug about not getting stretchmarks during pregnancy...

GoldenGreen · 03/08/2012 16:55

Not till about 35 weeks, both times Sad
