Scan before 12 wks - normal?

Hi,

Just a quick question. I've just been sent through a letter for my first scan and it's next Friday. Only got a BFP last Monday after many many negatives (last period end of May) so was unconvinced when doc said I was already 8wks. So by calculations I will only be 10 weeks at scan. Is this normal? was expecting a scan more to the end of the month. Will the scan even show anything??

It's my second pg so thought it would be an even longer wait.

Do they do the Nuchal scan where you are? If so, it's going to be too early for that. Although, my scan was 11 weeks and a day and they said at the scan it was a couple of days too early to take the measurements so they booked me in for another scan a couple of weeks later.

Otherwise, if it's jut a dating scan then I don't think it's too early. I think ( and I'm willing to be corrected!) that these take place between 10 and 14 weeks.

Im on my second pregnancy also and my first scan was at ten weeks. They took measurements etc. I thought it odd too.

Thanks guys - It's a dating scan. So will I even get to see anything? Get a print out picture or is that too early?

I got a print out from my 10week scan.

On the screen we could vaguely make out the heartbeat, legs, head and arms.

The picture is just a blob really!

If they can't see everything they need at the scan then they will rebook you so try not to worry. Pretty sure most hospitals will let you buy a pic regardless of how far along you are. Better to be scanned too early and have to come back than too late to accurately date you.

Hi I had the same thing. My NHS '12 week scan' was performed at 10.5 weeks. They could do most of their checks / measurements but re-booked me for 2 weeks later to complete their tests. The baby looked like a baby - clear head, body, arms and legs. Was really wriggly. The sonographer was able to check the brain formation was symetrical and see the stomach etc. When I went back at 12.5 weeks they finished their checks and I ended up with more pictures - bonus really!
