Hi all

Have a UTI and chest infection and have been off work self certified for 5 days at the end of today, so would need to go back tomorrow unless I get doc to sign me off.

Can I call docs and get signed off for 2 days? And in that case they won't say I should be signed off totally will they? I have 4 weeks left.

As an aside, my mum is getting married on Sat and I'm bridesmaid, so need to be better and unsure if best to go back to work or just get 2 more days rest? Really don't know what to do?

My maternity cover started just before I went off, so has been thrown in deep end but seems to be coping admirably making me feel worse that useless and a bit redundant, whole other thread!

TIA

work could only make you start maternity leave early if your illness was pregnancy related and you were off with it within 4 weeks of your expected birth date.

Why not phone the doctor and see what they advise.

I think just ring your doctor, impossible for anyone here to predict what he will say!

Can you get a doctor's appointment as soon as that to get signed off for tomorrow and Friday? If you are planning to be back at work on Monday, I don't see how they can make you get signed off totally if it just a short term infection. I'm not sure if there is a minimum length of time the doctor will sign you off for though ie whether they will sign you off for just two days or for another week. The doctor might just make you go back again next week to get checked over again before saying you are fit for work.

Remember that you need to look after yourself and baby - there's no point pushing yourself and ending up feeling worse in the long run (or risk baby coming early!). Only you know how well or ill you are feeling!

Thanks for the advice ladies, still unsure what to do, this pregnancy has made me totally incapable of making up my mind! Think I will call docs and speak to receptionist about getting doc to call me......

I had a chest infection at beginning of June when I was 31 weeks. The first week of illness was annual leave (typical) then went for antibiotics and was signed off for another 2 so that I could have a week for antibiotics to work and then a week to recover because "things take longer in your condition"!

Def get dr to sign you off and let them decide for how long, the most important thing at this time is you and baby!

Hope you're feeling better soon

Thanks all, have got myself signed off until at least Mon, felt terrible yesterday but cough was bit better, hacking and wheezing away again today.

Couldn't face thought of walking waddling into work tomorrow because I had to if still felt bloody awful!
