ok had my sweep at 40+3 but during my sweep she said "the head is down isn't it or showed her head down at ur last scan?" shouldn't she have been able to tell? I'm actually really worried now she might not b and I will go into labour and she could b breech? ??? Think I'm being paranoid but bit of a silly thing to ask me wasn't it??

It was a very odd thing to ask, she only had to have a feel, surely? Hmm

Cheekychops84 · 01/08/2012 09:31

Well yea? She did but I'm thinking of calling antenatal and asking them to check now as I'm paranoid she up the wrong way ?

It can be a bit difficult to check the head is down from palpating, and it could be risky to do a sweep with a footling breech or transverse lie, but surely she could have checked your notes?

She did check my notes? Talk about making a mother feel confident hey ! She hardly speaks aswell tbh I dnt really want her again :(

My midwife couldn't tell which way LO was at 39 weeks - I was sent for a scan just in case.

stowsettler · 01/08/2012 13:10

My sis's midwife was adamant her son had turned and was head down; when she went to the docs at 40+a few days she sent her straight in for a scan. He was still breech and delivered by C-section the next day.

Cheekychops84 · 01/08/2012 15:23

Oh no so what of I go into labour and she is breech?

Have you had a recent scan? Because it seems odd to ask if the baby was head down at the last scan, surely for most women that was at 29 weeks. Confused

Has your mw not mentioned which way the baby's lying before, or written it in your notes? Have you actually been checked by feel before?

Cheekychops84 · 01/08/2012 15:42

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and confirmed she was head down so I guess she won't have turned again right ? She has written ceph so she has put she is down . But when she asked that I was a bit Confused as I was thinking urm can't she tell? But maybe she just found it hard to tell?

Maybe she just wasn't sure and thought she'd ask rather than go and read your notes. I've had questions where they've just taken my word for it, when they really probably should have looked a my notes.

It sounds ver unlikely that the baby will have turned, I think it's more likely for them to turn if they're breech too rather than if they're head down, especially if the baby is head down and engaged.

CaptainHetty · 01/08/2012 16:09

I think it's unlikely she'll have turned after 36 weeks if she were head down at your scan. I'd try not to worry, but I'm sure someone will see you and check if it's playing on your mind :)

Cheekychops84 · 01/08/2012 16:17

Thanks think I'm just over thinking it ! Rather she had checked my notes rather then asked me now to b honest but what made me worry more is she asked my y she was doing the sweep so thought maybe she had hold of a foot or something!?

If she really thought the baby was breech she was have said and done something.

We read far too much into everything that's said or not said when we're pregnant! Wink

Lol we so do!
