The faintest line, HOURS after testing.. dare I get my hopes up?

Tested this morning (AF due today/tomorrow but nothing yet). Nothing showed on the test when I did it earlier, but looked about an hour ago and there is the faintest pink line I've ever seen.

Could I be? I don't want to do another test today (will wait until the morning I think).. have been TTC for 11 mo following a MC and starting to feel like it'll never happen..

Depending on the brand it could be an evaporation line. I think they say if a line isn't there after 10 minutes max then it's a no. Anything after that isn't conclusive. I don't want to put a damper on you & would suggest testing again tomorrow morning.

CamperFan · 31/07/2012 17:22

I would say a line is a line!

minipie · 31/07/2012 17:28

I never had evaporation lines (and from what I have read they tend to be grey not pink?) however, there is no real answer possible until you try another test... sorry!

EarnestDullard · 31/07/2012 17:29

How long did you leave it before you looked the first time? I had a similar situation where I did the test, binned it after 2 mins cos it was negative and I was going out, then noticed a faint line that evening when emptying the bin. But I had no idea if the line had appreared within 10 mins or not, as I'd binned it so quickly. I'm now 30w pregnant, so mine was a genuine positive.

I'd recommend testing again tomorrow if you can. Fingers crossed for you.

sundaesundae · 31/07/2012 17:31

I'd say that is a no, but that doesn't mean you aren't pregnant, just that this one isn't positive.

Do a first morning urine test on Friday if no AF, that will give you a good indication.

BobbieSox · 31/07/2012 17:32

I had this - tested again next day and same story, basically tested every day until the line was actually strong (about a week, agonising).

Result of that pregnancy is now throwing toast around the room ( he's allowed, he's only 10 months!)

Crossing fingers for you OP

miniandfloss · 31/07/2012 17:35

Hi! The same happened to me tested 3 days before as was feeling funny and nothing came up within 10 mins so chucked in the bin was also done in the eve so not first urine. Hour later scrabbling in the bin just to check and there was the faintest of lines that needed supersonic vision to see! Trigger impatience and a sleepless night. Up at 5 am the next morning another test no lines in 15 minutes but again tiniest of line after 30 mins. That was back in march now approaching 23 weeks with a very lively bump. Keeping fingers very crossed for you!

sundaesundae · 31/07/2012 17:49

When I first tested I got a very feint pink dot on the line and then 3 negatives!! (all diff brands).

I gave it two weeks and tested again and BFP, so don't give up hope. I felt very pregnant hence doing the tests (I'd done two or three earlier ones too!!), so was trusting my body more.

Have you got a funny taste in your mouth, tender breasts, bloating or nausea?

TBH I think there is a lot to be said for waiting 5 days post AF being due, less chance of false negs and positives (chemical / v. early mc) so less heartache and money spent!

Fingers and legs crossed for you OP!

RobotHamster · 31/07/2012 17:55

Thank you all, I know these threads are frustrating, I'll just have to test again and try and wait for Friday (fat chance). On the other hand, this is the first time in a year that I've had an inkling that I am... Is it too early for the crippling tiredness? :-)

Earnest prob about 4 hours!

There's probably not much hope tbh

It was one of these tests - reading the reviews looks like they're not the most reliable but do take ages to show a result.. Hmm...

I had this happen to me... He will be 3 in September!! Fingers crossed for you x

oikopolis · 31/07/2012 21:31

i tested at 11DPO and this happened. another test at 13DPO was a dark line. Am now 32 weeks.

TellyBug · 31/07/2012 21:35

I had this- evaporation lines. Didn't know about them at the time so was horrified when I got my period.

Pregnant next month though. Good luck! Grin

RobotHamster · 31/07/2012 21:35

I think I'm 12dpo today... Hopefully I just need to wait a couple of days...

Argh, it's torture isn't it.

Robot I ve had a look at the link you posted as to what the test was and personally if something is that cheap £3.75p for 6 pregnancy tests then im guessing they cant be much good IMO.

I tested with clear digital, yes they are expensive, around a tenner for two but they showed up within 15 seconds and therefore i wasnt in an doubt.

It always pays to buy quality.

Id go to the local supermarket if i was you and get yourself a decent one.

:-)

Iheartpasties · 01/08/2012 09:07

good luck

RobotHamster · 01/08/2012 09:17

If I don't get AF today I'll go and get another one.

Pg tests don't need to be expensive to work though, the ones they use at the GP are just those cheap strip ones.

I am doubting these ones though, and I think they're giving me false hope. :(

rogersmellyonthetelly · 01/08/2012 09:32

The cheap strip ones off the internet are just as good as the expensive ones! I got lines on those a full day before first response showed a line, and it was another 2 days before clearblue showed anything.
If you didn't look inside the time it could be an evaporation line, but if its clearly pink I think you may get a nice surprise when you test again,

TinkerMaloo · 01/08/2012 12:22

With my DD I tested in a public loo on the way for a cervical smear, just to be sure beforehand. I missed most of the stream of my wee and only caught a tiny bit. Waited 3 mins and nothing showed up so I stuck it in my bag (minging, I know) and went and had the smear.

When I got home hours later I opened up my bag to pop it in the bin and there was the faintest line you could possibly imagine!

I put it down to the fact that it was hours after the test and thought maybe thats just whjat happens and thats why it says 3 mins.

But I couldnt get iut out of my mind over the next day or two so bought another test and hey presto dark pink line! She is now 22 months old eating a breadstick and smiling at me :)

TinkerMaloo · 01/08/2012 12:25

and as for paying to buy quality... the cheap ones work as well as the expensive ones! They all test for the same hormone, and whether the reactive agent is cased in paper or in plastic with an added digital display and sparkly bits and plays a tune it doesnt matter.

RobotHamster · 01/08/2012 17:53

Still no AF, still no BFP either though. I wish I could put it out of my mind but I can't

:(

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/08/2012 17:54

Fingers crossed but really don't look at the test after the 10 mins is up - its just not worth it because of evap lines.

RobotHamster · 01/08/2012 18:01

I know, but these tests said to wait at least 5 mins for the result, but the control line just kept getting darker,

I should stop torturing myself... Gah
