Hiya ladies,

Now before i ask my question i must warn you it's rather disgusting and very embarrassing for me to ask. Blush
This afternoon when i wiped after going to the toilet there was a very large amount of CM, it really looked like snot, like someone with a really bad cold had just blown their nose. I know that CM increases when pregnant but this really was a lot. Plus it was verry "snot like" - long, stretchy and thick. Could it be my mucus plug? Really worried as i am only 24 weeks. I'm not sure if it is a coincidence but DH and I had sex yesterday for the first time since i was about 9 weeks. I had made him wait until i got my cervix measured at my scan last week because i had LLETZ treatment last year and i was concerned it would lead to me having a weakened cervix. However it all looked good and the midwife gave us the green light.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Should i be worried? I have an appointment with my community MW tomorrow so will definately ask her but in the meantime if anyone else can shed any light on my embarrassing problem i would really appreciate it.
Thanks. Smile

could be a mix of cm and sperm

SarryB · 26/07/2012 15:00

I would ring your midwife today if possible. I'm trying not to scare you, but my plug sounded a lot like what you are describing.

5madthings · 26/07/2012 15:07

another one saying ring your midife, it could well just be normal cervical mucus and sperm etc but its better to be safe and if you can see a midwife who can put your mind at rest then all good :)

snot like does describe the mucus plug but mine has always been a bit bloody.

maybe put a pad on to see if anything else appears and then you could show that to a midwife so, yuck i know but htey have seen it all before!

Ok, equally gross reply. I find I have this after sex (usually the next day) its almost like extra CM and my body expelling the left over sperm. Gross but def something I've noticed.

I always thought that plug had a bit of brown or red blood in it

SpottyTeacakes · 26/07/2012 16:06

Mines always like this when pregnant Blush

TMI but I too had the snot-like discharge within a day of having had sex, which was more embarrassingly left on the carpet where I was briefly sat whilst naked!! Blush

I think day-old semen does that, because I know from the conception threads that the thick egg-white discharge you get when fertile is masked by having had sex.

I get LOADS of discharge during pg anyway, & baby is very much staying put & moving, so I'm not concerned. (I'm 23wks BTW).

Grin chunky

I had what you described on Friday without having the sex, I saw my midwife Tuesday and she said it very much sounds like a show but I am 36 weeks and have other symptons of imminent labour! , I called the midwife unit on the Friday it happened and they didnt sound to concerned as they said discharge increases the further along you go, but I would call them just in case :)

Thanks for all the replies. Nice to know I'm not the only one having snot down below.
Called my midwife & she brought me in and ran some tests, including one like a smear... God I hate those! And everything looks fine. Definitely glad I called though as I can stop worrying now.
Thanks again for all the reassurance. Smile

ah glad you got checked over and all is fine, def worth it for the reassurance :)

WanderingOkapi · 26/07/2012 20:01

Glad all ok. I had to wear pads through pregnancies as all kinds of mank came out at various times. All normal

Funnywonder · 26/07/2012 20:18

I had something similar to this all through my last pregnancy and am now 33 weeks with no 2 and it's the same again. I never know what I'm going to find lurking in there! As long as there's no whiff and no itch, I just use a pad and forget about it. It was one of the first things that told me I was pregnant.
