Only had it a couple of times, it's woken me and I've been up and out of the bed in seconds. as soon as I put weight on it and stand up then it goes but the last one left a sore leg all day.

Apparently drinking tonic water is good for regular sufferers. It contains quinine that helps apparently.

God it's bad. Feeling very sorry for myself, it's going to be a long day

Fish, you have my sympathy, just started for me too at almost 30 weeks. Just before the agonising pain starts and you know it's coming is horrible!

Happened when I stretched my leg early this am, so I kept it flat on the bed, rather than immediately jumping/heaving myself up in panic, and it was less painful and went quicker.

Very freaky when the muscle sticks out so hard, you can see it! I seem to recall that keeping up salt intake/water can reduce??

Twotumsellie · 26/07/2012 10:32

God i had this this morning too. I woke up screaming, it was agony!

However my partner wasn't very sympathetic at all. In fact he proceeded to have a huge mardy, told me a was being Ridiculous and stommped out of the door leaving me to deal with it myself. My calf still aches and i'm terrified its going to happen again today whilst i'm at work.
My OH has put me ain a foul mood over it... his dinner will be in the dog tonight when i get home grrrr

this is the second attack i've had and i'm only 25 weeks. Confused

idk if the tonic water thing works but try drinking more water generally and eating a banana before bed!

(unless bananas are banned because you have gestational diabetes like me :( - in which case have a look here at other foods that have potassum and magensium in them!)

You poor things. It hurts like a bastard doesn't it. I got them terribly with ds2. Elemis do a relaxing gel that I used to help calm my muscles down once the pain had gone. I used to wake an have to walk around for 10 minutes or so to get rid of the pains.

I also used it for my blinding headaches too.

Try a magnesium supplement or Epsom salts in the bath.

Sossiges · 26/07/2012 14:58

Cramps can be a sign of lack of magnesium.

I had it this morning too, when I woke up. cramp is horrible, I think I get it more when the weathers hot and it was very hot last night!

Loislane78 · 26/07/2012 20:49

You most likely need sodium. Increased water intake in pg generally combined with sweating in hot weather is a recipe for cramps. Packet of crisps, nuts or natural sodium like olives plus some stretching will sort you out. Drinking lots more water on its own may actually make it worse.

Remember this well. I moved my bed next to the radiator when it was off, when cramp hit I'd bang my foot down on it, having my foot flat and on something cold was an immense relief. Got to where even in sleep I could feel it come and would just slap my foot against it and drift off again.
