if you're rhesus neg blood type - how many children do you have and are they rhesus pos or neg?

Currently pregnant with dc1. I'm rhesus neg, DH is rhesus positive and I'm intrigued to find out what DC is going to be and interested whether it's 50\50 (I know genetics are a little more complicated than that but still...this a simple survey.)

Finding the whole thing rather interesting at the mo.

So, yes, basically I'm being nosy and would like to know how many children you have and whether they are rhesus + or -

I'm O-

Dd is A-

Dh doesn't have a clue what he is. He went to donate blood just to find out but he wasn't allowed SadGrin

5inabed · 25/07/2012 01:00

DH & I are O rh - as are all 3 of our children. Midwives wanted to give me the injection even after confirming what I thought - 2 rh - parents cannot make a rh + child.

Kayano · 25/07/2012 03:11

I'm rhesus D negative with a needle phobia and 1 DD

Angry she came out positive.

Lots of trauma for mummy

ZonkedOut · 25/07/2012 03:36

I'm A-, we don't know DD's exact blood type, but he has to be B+ or AB+ because DD1 is AB- and DD2 is A+. The hospital told me their blood types after birth when it came to anti-D (or not).

Blood type (at least regarding the ABO system) is genetically straightforward and has nothing to do with gender.

ZonkedOut · 25/07/2012 03:37

I meant, we don't know DH's blood type (phone auto correct).

IsLovingAndGiving · 25/07/2012 04:16

I'm A- & dh is B-. First two children are negative & third is positive

Dd 1 is B-, Ds 1 is O- & dd2 is O pos I think.

sashh · 25/07/2012 04:50

MrsTomHardy

Are they adopted?

MadderHat · 25/07/2012 06:49

I'm A- (made up of AO--) and my husband is A+. Both children are +, but we don't know if they are A or O. We don't know if my husband is made up of AA++, AA+-, AO+- or AO++ but we do know his ethnic origin has very very few -ves, so he's likely to be ++.
I had anti-D during both pregnancies, several times due to bleeds.

There are more causes of haemolytic disease (blood incompatibility between mother and baby) than just rhesus, it's just that the rhesus one is the most common problem, and the one for which it has been bothered to try to prevent.

pacificjade · 25/07/2012 06:56

I'm rh- and both DS's are rh+ve. Had anti-D after DS1, but was not offered it throughout preganancy, had no bleeds that I was aware of, but had antibodies when pregnant with DS2. Assume I must have had a bleed I was not aware of at somepoint when pregnant with DS1.

Was very closely monitored throughout pregancy with DS2. Was induced at 37 weeks and DS2 had to have a blood tansfusion when 48 hours old. He almost needed a second one 2 days later, but his system kicked in and antibodies started reducing. Very stressful. Not having a DC3.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 25/07/2012 07:14

My mum is -ve, my older sister +ve, my younger sister and I are both -ve. My dh is +ve, my two kids are -ve, not sure about the one in the oven at the moment. my mums sister is -ve and her dh +ve, my 3 cousins are all +ve. I did some research myself as I was nosy. Seems like total pot luck really!

sheepsgomeeping · 25/07/2012 07:32

I am o neg. I have four children. My eldest two, boy and girl are o neg like me and my younger two, both girls, are o positive

Both dads are o positive.

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 25/07/2012 10:20

I'm O- and DH is B+.

DC1 = B+
DC2 = B+
DC3 = O-

No bleeds I was aware of and I had the Anti-D injections during all pregnancies and after DS1 was born.

DC1 & DC2 both had haemolytic disease. Neither required transfusions, but they were both in SCBU for several days, had to stay in hosp for 7 days of phototherapy and required folic acid drops & blood tests for 3 months.

Luckily it was less serious as it was caused by ABO incompatibility rather than Rh incompatibility. It wasn't picked up during pregnancy as these antibodies are not screened for.

DC3 was fine (although I had a hospital bag packed for a week as I assumed he'd be B+ too!)

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 25/07/2012 10:55

I am Rhesus Negative....I have no idea what DH or DS are!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 25/07/2012 10:55

Sorry, Rhesus 0 Negative that is.

SocialButterfly · 25/07/2012 12:51

I am rh neg and dh is rh pos, I have 2 girls who are both rh pos. both girls were affected by haemolytic disease and were In scbu. I had 4 inter uterine blood transfusions with the second dd but the first was undiagnosed, I went in with reduced movements and had her 4 hours later, she was very poorly and they weren't sure if she was going to make it. She has very mild learning problems which the consultant said could be linked to the haemolytic disease. I have been advised not to have any more children.

hebejebe · 25/07/2012 13:07

I'm B-ve, dh is O+. Ds1 and dd1 were tested at birth and both rhesus -ve so I wasn't given the anti-D jab.

When dd2 was born they were going to give me the anti-D jab automatically so I asked if they could test the baby's blood first - didn't want to have more pain unless absolutely necessary.

Told the midwife the other 2 children were rhesus -ve and she said the chances of me having 3 rhesus -ve children were extremely unlikely given their father was rhesus +ve. She then tested the baby, pronounced her -ve too and gave me a very Hmm look.

Just as well she was the spitting image of her father...

sybilvimes · 25/07/2012 13:22

My mum is AB+, my dad is O+. Two of their children (icluding me) are rh-.

I am B-, dh is O-. all three kids are rh- but I only know DS1's full blood group which is O-.

sybilvimes · 25/07/2012 13:25

Wait, I wrote that worng.

i amd B-, dh is A- and ds is apparently O-. Which I have always presumed to be a recessive thing similar to how I am a rh- child born to two rh+ children. Please tell me this is possible, I'd hate to think I am the enduring the kevin-esque teenage strops designed by nature for another set of parents Wink

sybilvimes · 25/07/2012 13:26

Oh bloody hell! How many mistakes?

I am obviously a rh- child born to two rh+ parents

GoatsHaveStrangeEyes · 25/07/2012 13:54

I'm O neg.

Dd1 is O pos (she is DD with ex though)
Ds is O neg
Dd2 is A neg.

I presume dh is A neg or pos.

Tortu · 25/07/2012 13:59

I'm Rhesus neg. My baby is positive.

It's quite a speedy way of getting over any problems with needles, isn't it? I also had a number of bleeds during my pregnancy. I seem to recall counting more than 14 anti-D injections. Sigh. My husband had a lovely joke that the baby would come out with mutant super-powers.

Enjoy the needles, OP and welcome to the elite!

hackneyzoo · 25/07/2012 14:32

I'm -ve and all three of my dcs are -ve too.

I'm A rhesus negative, I think my dc is O neg

PinkyCheesy · 25/07/2012 15:43

I am A-
DH is A+
DS1 is A+
DS2 is O+

I had anti-D during first pregnancy and after the birth.

Second pregnancy went fine but 24 hrs after birth, DS2 was readmitted on to SCBU with 'NAIT', caused by my developing negative antibodies which then passed to his blood and caused platelet loss. He was absolutely fine and his platelet count went up over the 36 hours he was in hospital. In more serious cases he would have had to have a transfusion.

I was recommended not to have another baby (didn't want one anyway) but if I did then I should have medical intervention from day 1 (eg amnio, in utero transfusions, etc). That rather put me off Smile Much Respect to the posters who have borne this kind of intervention

If you're nosy interested, this is an excellent explanatory leaflet about negative antibodies.
