if you're rhesus neg blood type - how many children do you have and are they rhesus pos or neg?

Currently pregnant with dc1. I'm rhesus neg, DH is rhesus positive and I'm intrigued to find out what DC is going to be and interested whether it's 50\50 (I know genetics are a little more complicated than that but still...this a simple survey.)

Finding the whole thing rather interesting at the mo.

So, yes, basically I'm being nosy and would like to know how many children you have and whether they are rhesus + or -

Madonna Shock

I am -ve, DH is +ve. DS1&DD are +ve, DS2 is -ve.

DartsIsFun · 24/07/2012 21:37

I'm O Neg and DP is A+. I've 2 DCs and didn't get Anti-D injections during the pregnancies, only afterwards.

I know DD (eldest) is 0+, but I'm not sure about DS, but as I had the Anti D, I assume he's positive of some sort.

I did worry with DS1, but never seemed to give it a thought with subsequent children - more distracted, I guess!

magnolia I have had to have anti-Ds throughout all my pregnancies, so perhaps they do it differently in different areas?

googlyeyes · 24/07/2012 21:39

I'm rh neg and dh is pos.

First 2 children are neg and ds2 is pos.

Had routine anti-D jabs with all 3

Might be talking out of my arse but seem to remember being told that as a rh neg mother with a pos father there is a 1 in 5 chance of each child being neg

whysoserious · 24/07/2012 21:41

chocolatchaud I seem to notice every tiny knock but I guess with subsequent pregnancies you have toddlers climbing over you all the time and don't even think about it!

I'm Rh neg and so is my DS

whysoserious · 24/07/2012 21:42

An right googly not necessarily 50/50 then...

PiedWagtail · 24/07/2012 21:46

I am A neg. My dh is something-positive. Both dc are something-negative.

magnolia74 · 24/07/2012 21:47

Maybe it is with all pregnancies, I bled with all of mine so had lots of anti d injections :(

Had to go with my sister last week, her first baby and she had a bleed, Didn't remember the needle being that bloody big Shock

AThingInYourLife · 24/07/2012 21:48

DoUnto - I've always wondered about a gender influence

My mum is rh-, Dad rh+, have 3 DC
I and sis rh-
Bro rh+

I have 3 girls: first two rh-, dd3 rh+

DartsIsFun · 24/07/2012 21:50

Magnolia I didn't bleed during pregnancy. Maybe that's why you had lots of injections. I was given a card to show a doctor to get an injections if I showed up with a bleed or abdominal injury.

FrillyMilly · 24/07/2012 21:51

Me and DH are negative so both our children are negative. One has my blood type and one has his.

My mum is negative and of the 3 children I'm the only negative. DHs gran was negative and had 8 children, one of them was a stillborn. She was told she was lucky it was only one. I'm very grateful for the anti d jab.

whysoserious · 24/07/2012 21:51

DoUnto and AThingInYourLife I've also wondered about gender influence. I'm rh- like my mother and my bro is rh+ like our father. I'm not sure what my DC is gender wise

Floggingmolly · 24/07/2012 21:56

I'm negative, my three children are positive. You'll need the anti-d injections (think it's at 28 weeks and again after birth) and they also have plenty of blood on standby in case any transfusion is necessary after the birth.

bogeyface · 24/07/2012 21:57

Re gender....

I have 2 boys and 4 girls. Both boys and 3 of the girls are positive like their dad, one of the girls is negative like me.

IvanaHumpalot · 24/07/2012 21:58

I'm O-

DH O+
DS O-

I didn't have (or offered) the jab. DS born 06.

Karoleann · 24/07/2012 22:02

Oddly I'm A-ve and so is hubby! All kids were therefore -ve too. Not sure what the group was though.

SkipTheLightFanjango · 24/07/2012 22:04

I'm Rh-, dp is Rh+.
4 dc's..3 of them are Rh-
Was pushed over by runaway car at 32 weeks with twins..never crossed my mind about the anti-d at the time, wasn't warned about it. All turned out fine though Smile

theroseofwait · 24/07/2012 22:07

I'm O negative, my mum is A negative and my dad was O Positive. Dh is something positive (O I think) and both my boys are O negative like me.

zlist · 24/07/2012 22:08

I am A neg, DH is O neg (I think) and DS is A neg

twofurryones · 24/07/2012 22:09

I'm A-, DS is O-, as is DS, DH is O-, midwives often congratulate me on, like I specifically chose him on that basis, although I am grateful not to have to have anti-D or go through what my Mum did. She had my brother in the 60s (who is rh+) and went on to have lots of miscarriages before having me 9 years later, doctors were very worried I'd be a blue baby.

oldspeckledtam · 24/07/2012 22:14

I'm o-. Dd and ds are the same. We assume dh is too but Dr wouldn't check (between pg) as he only had my word for it that he was my baby's father. I'm needle phobic so I'd really liked to have avoided the anti d.

krasnayaploshad · 24/07/2012 22:14

o positive as is dh. Its a much more common blood group than rhesus neg so not 50/50
There seems to be a bit of confusion on here. Firstly, the poster I've quoted above is confusing two different blood group systems.
There's ABO system. A & B denote the presence of certain antigens on red blood cells. O means none, A is one type, B is another type & it's also possible to have both antigens to give blood type AB (quite rare).
The rhesus system is + or - & as someone else mentioned, is related to a certain antigen in another antigen group. The two systems together give our blood types eg O+, O- etc.

A woman who has a negative blood group & becomes pregnant to a man with a positive blood group needs to be concerned in case the foetus is rhesus +ve. Often, the first baby is OK but haemolytic disease can occur with subsequent pregnancies as was the case for jumping.

krasnayaploshad · 24/07/2012 22:18

To answer OPs question - nothing interesting in my family, all O+ve.
Although my Mum caused a rumour in our family when I was a teenager. My Dad, sister & I all started donating blood. Dad & I are O+ve & Mum said she was too. My sister found out she's A+ve & having studied genetics at school I knew it was impossible for my parents to have a child with A type blood. So I did the natural big sister thing & teased my sister about being adopted. Grin
Mum assured us that she really did give birth to my sister.

ModreB · 24/07/2012 22:20

I am A-. DH is B+.

We have 3 DS, DS1 is A+, DS2 is A-, DS3 is B-.

I had anti D after DS1. HTH
