TTC after mc - help with pg tests

I had a mc that finished last week. It happened naturally and by the time I went for a scan last Wednesday, everything had gone. Bleeding (which was only slight by then) finished by Friday. I've had quite a bit of ewcm and felt like I could be getting to my most fertile time of the month. I've also been told that you are very fertile after a mc. However, today I decided to do a pg test and it is still positive.

I've DTD most days since Friday - could it be down to this or is this just extremely wishful thinking?

Is it not possible to get pg again until pg tests are negative?

Hello sorry to hear about your mc. I think it is likely that you are ovulating and this can occur when your HCG drops to under 20 or so. I know this as with my last (3rd) mc I had retained products and HCG stayed in my body for ages (was having regular blood draws to mobitor it) yet I still ovulated and then got my period 14 days after that. It would be unlikely that you could conceive this cycle (due to HCG buggering things up a bit) but you never know!

So sorry you are walking this road.For my second it took six weeks for mine to be negative, I was testing it out. You can conceive in the next cycle it just depends , with my first the baby had died at 8 weeks but my body did not do anything at all and it was only at my 12 week scan that i found out that i was no longer pregnant. I had a d and c and got pregnant straight away and carried a healthy baby.

Took 6wks for my negative too, but have faith, I fell pregnant 3mnths after my mmc xx

My story is similar. Took 5-6 weeks for period to come back after D&C. It was super-light compared to normal. Second cycle was much heavier than normal and I conceived after that. We TTC each cycle so it really just took a couple months for things to settle down. But everyone is different so good luck!

Unfortnately it will most likely be residual hormones. WHen I MC I got a neg test a week after the end of it all.. that was awful. I hated the false hope that early ones gave :(

You are more fertile post MC. I've been told there is an increased chance/risk of twins. It doesn't really matter in a way though... you need to wait until you feel ready. xxxx

I think I took about three weeks for my hcg levels to drop to about zero, the hospital were monitoring mine too and I think I ovulated when they were nearing zero. Remember that a pregnancy test generally won't show a positive result, from a new pg until at least 10 days after ovulation.

I really feel for what you're going through right now. It is the most horrible time, and the uncertainty/ terror about getting pg again is all consuming. However, you are more fertile after a mc. I got my positive, the one which stuck, on cycle 2, after leaving cycle one to recover. I really wish you all the best. x

Thank you for replying. I wonder why they didn't want any follow up appointments? During the internal scan, the spend quite a long time looking at every bit of the lining of the uterus so maybe they felt that everything was gone. I think that I'll get dtd regularly and see what happens. We've got a few things to look forward to over the next few weeks and we're off on holiday for 3 weeks towards to end of August. I'll just hope that I get pg again soon. I think I was just disappointed to get the positive test yesterday as in my head, we were already seriously ttc again!

The hospital told me that they would expect a negative pg test two weeks after the mc and to get back to them if this wasn't the case. I contacted them after the two weeks as was still getting definite positives and that's when they started testing the blood hcg levels. If I had got a negative pg test within the two weeks after they would not have needed to see me again as the scan I had afterwards confirmed no retained products. Goodluck

I've bought some cheap pg tests from amazon (it says they are the ones that NHS uses?!) and I'm going to test every other day until I get a negative. Quite a few people say they ov around the time they started getting -ves so hopefully that'll happen for me as well.
