ive just founf out im pg again, and need some advice.a couple of years ago i was diagnosed with gilberts disease.apart from the daft name,i didnt have a clue what it was!i was told by the consultant that i should avoid fat, dairy and alcohol.as ive never drank much, that wasnt a problem.i got pg with dd soon after and because i had to cut down what i ate,i lost 3 stone whilst pg!as i am bf i started eating dairy and fat again.but now that i am pg again,im worried abotu what to eat.i dont want to cut everything out if i can help it as it did make me really ill last time.ive never seen a dietician on what to eat and what not to eat,so any advice would be greatfully recieved!oh,and im still bf,but plan to stop because of being pg!!

How funny, apart from my brother and Dad I have never come across anyone else with Gilberts! I saw a consultant when preg who said it was absolutely nothing to worry about and there was a 50% chance DS would come out a bit yellow - he didn't. I just get yellowish eyes when tired/ill. Apparently it has an effect on how you absorb fats, but has never had any impact on my life. My Dad has it and his skin goes quite yellow when ill. He's a doctor but has never done anything special about having Gilberts.

My dh has it, but it really doesn't affect his life at all. He sticks to a fairly low-fat diet, but that's pretty much out of choice because fatty foods make him feel ill, but drinks normally (21 units a week... ish).

My mum cut out a piece in the Times about it a while ago, and the woman in the article claimed it made her feel very tired and lacking in energy etc. I threw it away without showing it to dh-- if he read that he'd start getting all sorts of symptoms!

Hadn't heard of anyone else with it either!

i hadnt heard of anyone else with it before either!i started bleeding last night and looks like im misscarrying.am planning on trying again though,so any tips on what to eat and what to avoid?ive never been told what i can eat and i do get worried when i have anything high fat as i know i'll get pains afterwards.thats how i was first diagnosed.my gp thought i had kidney probs and sent me for a scan, thats when they found i had fat on my liver.

Feel so bad for you. How are you feeling in yourself?

buffythenappyslayer · 07/03/2006 22:29

am feeling abit better now than i have all day.think its cos the kids came home from school, which was a welcome distraction.mind you,my ds brought home an animatronic baby as hes volunteered to be its parent for the next 24 hours.its been screaming since he brought it home!its been quite funny as hes been so stressed out with it,and no-one else can help because hes wearing a tag thing so it recognises him!tbh i couldve done without having a simulated baby in the house yoday, but hey,its made me smile watching him deal with it!

sorry, buffy, only just picked this up again. The simulated baby thing was bloody bad timing. You sound like you're coping amazingly well... Have you posted on any of the miscarriage threads?

buffythenappyslayer · 08/03/2006 13:53

no i havent orlando.had hv here today about dd,and talked to her about it.i just feel really low,but i have to keep going for the kids.i just want to curl up and cry my eyes out.i want to be on my own but i cant be.is it normal to feel so angry, even though i was only so early on?sorry if im waffling on!
