I'm 24 wks and apparently DH says I've started snoring so loud he can't sleep. This is a guy who sleeps through everything so I know it's bad. I don't sleep on my back as have maternity pillow now but how do I stop? He bought me the nose strip things that fall off in the night and do nothing. Short of sleeping separately for the rest of the pregnancy I'm not sure what else to do. Are there any remedies that are safe? Is horrendous snoring a normal part of pregnancy? I'm a bit embarressed really.

Ah I started snoring just the other day (37+2) wondering if it was pregnancy! I've been really stuffed up recently from combo of general pregnancy stuffiness and hayfever... try putting vicks and see if that is of any use? Or olbas on your pillow? Aside from that no help but also feeling a bit embarrassed, I keep waking myself up snorting Blush

I have exactly the same problem! Spoke to my GP about it and she went down a list of treatments on her computer and ruled out all of them apart from ear plugs for partner. We tried it and it works! Just got some from Tesco. Took a few nights for him to get used to them but now a great solution. I really struggle to breathe when I'm lying down and often wake myself up but DH is sleeping like a baby xx

It's definitely part of the pregnancy package - the hormone that relaxes your ligaments during pregnancy has the same effect on the upper airways which causes it.

I wish I could tell you that there's a remedy, but the only thing I can recommend is removing the pillow from under your head and tilting your chin upwards. Alternatively, if you can sleep like this, I also tried sleeping slightly propped up which helped a bit.

I've had this and found the nose strips work beautifully. Are they worth another try? Check the positioning, better brand or something?

I've had a kind of similar thing where I keep 'snorting' very loudly and it wakes me up, never had before I was pregnant! 29 weeks

Loislane78 · 23/07/2012 20:19

Obviously I never snored before being pg Hmm but have turned into a little snorter since by all accounts. Between blocked sinuses and generally struggling to get my breath, I think I've turned into a bit of a Darth Vader.

Haven't found a proper remedy (sorry), other than to explain my amazing body is growing a person and its hard - what exactly are you doing? Tend to find that shuts up any comments, however nice intentioned :)

Ah, thanks ladies! Good to know it's not just me! I will definitely try the nose strips again with a dash of Olbas oil. I should have known pesky hormones were softening my nasel passages...no doubt my brain will follow! Thanks again!

Just adding myself in here! I was like a road drill...

Interestingly my nose strip fell off last night. Obviously I've been jinxed Grin but I did also put it on without cleaning my nose first. I think it wouldn't stick due to my nose being too greasy, hot day etc. So that might be a good tip for getting them to stay on. Clean nose, no greasy face cream or anything.

Mine fell off again Alice and am thinking it was probably sweat...I can't really fix that, feeling like the human torch at the moment but that's a whole different thread! Think I'll try talc before application tonight. Ah well, he can't say I'm not trying!
