This is my first scan and it seems that it's an early one as I will be 8 weeks then. Anyway I'm wondering if it will be an external or an internal scan? The doctor didn't say and I had never heard of internal scans until today.

All my early scans were internal. They use a wand they insert vaginally. It's not painful, just an odd feeling. I had much better pictures through internal scans than extrenal because I am fat.

Ah im also overweight so I guess internal it is. My guy is coming with me, I'm kind of concerned now lol ah well he better get used to the midwife shoving stuff up there he he

It all depends, I had a scan at 8 +2 and I had it from the outside as normal.

Good luck!

I was told that below 12 weeks internal scans are used as external ones give a very poor picture. My 8 week scan was internal. I didn't take anyone in with me as I didn't want an audience. You will be given photos afterwards.

It's affectionately known as 'dildocam'!! Don't be disappointed if it just looks like a blob though, at 8 weeks it won't be recognisable as a baby, but will hopefully have a heartbeat.
