Burning pain under right rib...

I'm 29+4 and for the last two weeks have had a burning, sometimes stabbing pain under my right rib. It's constant and is almost making me cry at times! I've made a GP appointment for tomorrow as I'm worried it's one of my organs as they are now all up in that area, but I'm sure there will probably be a logical explanation like expanding ribs or baby foot! I have a very short torso so I don't know if that is making things worse...

Is anyone else suffering from this or am I just going mad?! The one positive is that it's taking my mind off the piles and constipation!!!

I had the most horrific rib pain during my pregnancy and, Im sorry to say this, it only went after DD arrived. The stretching of my ribcage to accomodate DD was worse than the contractions.

It may or may not be this for you, and great idea to get checked over incase it is anything serious, but it could well be your ribcage stretching to accomodate your baby. I had a 32 band size pre-preg and am now 34 (dd is 7mo) due to my rib cage widening.

Im so sorry.

I used to race home after work purely to rip off my bra Grin

Thanks Gnocchi... I have a feeling that's what it might be! I was a 30 band size pre preg and now on the end hook of a 32 (with a g cup!) and think I actually need a 34 so I suspect that might be it...
It hurts soooooo much! Did paracetamol help you? I haven't taken any during preg but might have to give in.

Rib pain can also be a serious sign of pre-eclampsia. It's probably just stretching but give your MW a call asap to rule it out.

I didn't take any painkillers for it as Im a bit 'hmmm' about me taking them pre pregnancy so didnt take them during. However, towards the end I did use a little deep heat and also used to bug DH for a back massage which helped ease the pain.

I dont really know why I didn;t take any paracetamol now, thinking back.

I have been getting this since about 28 weeks, on the left side usually for me. It's enough to makes me want to cry at times. Paracetamol is the only thing that helps it.

I feel a lot better knowing it seems pretty common. AKMD, thanks for the advice... you gave me the kick I probably needed to ring the MW so I've just done that. She said it sounds either muscular or like renal colic (which I've never heard of!) and to try peppermint tea for the colic and if that doesn't ease the pain then paracetamol... if those fail to help I'm to ring them back and they'll look into it more. Thanks everyone.

Well, the peppermint tea didn't help so I kept my GP appointment and went to see her yesterday and I started with "I'm sure it's just rib pain as everything stretches but I just wanted to check..." and she examined me and said that she thought it might actually be gallstones Shock So I'm now scheduled to have a scan of my gallbladder in two weeks time, which seems quite a while to wait. She's also booked me for a blood test to check my liver function on Friday just to rule that out in the meantime! I really, really hope she's just overreacting. Gallstones don't sound like fun at all must stop googling particularly as I've also had to have a GTT for GD this morning, so if it turns out I've got both GD and gallstones I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to eat for the next 10 weeks as both require changes to the diet!!
Crossing fingers that both tests come back negative!!
