Is tinned crab okay?

I've googled this but not found a clear answer! My husband makes a lovely crab linguine using tinned crab so I'm just wondering whether this is okay in pregnancy? I assume so as it's cooked, but we'll be reheating it and I'm not sure if it will be to a sufficiently high temperature!

Thanks.

The reason you are advised not to eat sea food while pregnant is due to the increased risk of food poisoning due to your suppressed immune system. Which could make you quite poorly and wouldnt be any fun but shouldnt directly harm your baby. Armed with this information I did eat a bit of seafood while pregnant if I was happy with the source and the cook :) The omega 3 oils are good for babies brain developement, I never got food poisoning and have a nice healthy baby. I stayed away from leftover Chinese etc :)

Tinned crab is fine.

Pretty much all seafood is fine. Except High mercury fish.

Yes it's fine. I would just maybe be wary if eating something like that out as you can't be sure of how it's was cooked/ length of time out etc

Thank you, it's a nice summery dinner so let's hope the sun stays out! Smile

I think it's fine to eat freshly cooked, as in, from raw, and still hot, but I am sure I read somewhere that you shouldn't have it cooked and cold, or raw (of course). Sure you will eb fine though.

I thought all tinned stuff was cooked as part of the canning process, and hermetically sealed so sterile. And therefore perfectly safe.

bonzo77, that's what I thought too, I'm assuming it is, but have just asked DH to heat it in the pan for a little longer than usual to get rid of any nasties. I'm hungry!
