Hi,

40+1 today with first baby, went into hospital 2 days ago and MW said baby fine but do you know that you are having contractions, 1 every 10 minutes in fact? I was like no way I thought it was baby boy stretching and squirming never gave it another thought.

I had been havng bad back ache and period pains though. I tend to ignore everything in the thinking that once contractions really start I'd know about it.

MW sent me home sayng it could be tonight, tomorrow or the next day, it's the early stages but will happen over next few days.

Well I'm still waiting, I rested yesterday from the advice of some mumsnet readers but it seemed to slow things right down so tody I kept active for as long as my feet would allow and I am having random very few tightenings but at least it's something.

How long does this process last?? Say another few days go by with signs but no increase in tightenings/contractions should I call the hospital maybe and seek advice? I feel so on edge not knowing what to expect or who to contact when.

Tryng to stay happy and positive - Anyone have any idea on what I should be doing?

Thanks :)

Hi, I had twinges on and off for 4 days with my second (i.e. pains on Sunday, none on Mon, twinges on Tues eve nothing more til Wed am labour kicked in properly Wed eve), she was born Thurs 1.15am at 40+5.

I think it's very likely that you will indeed know when contractions have really started. In the meantime try not to get too worried or frustrated. I'm no medic but don't think there's anything your 'should' be doing - I assume you mean to bring labour on? Baby will come in his/her own time. You're not really overdue, waters haven't broken, which would suggest there's nothing amiss. Very unlikely that baby will just suddenly pop out without you having any active labour contractions at all.

Best wishes.

I had twinges then regular contractions over 24 hours, the. 24 hours of nothing. Labour suddenly started properly the following afternoon and dd was born after 3 hours.

I had early labour and intermittent contractions for nearly
A week before it finally kicked off. It's how long is a piece of string really I'm afraid

I had mild contractions/tightenings on and off for a week + then very suddenly I got proper contractions, and DD was born 80 mins later. This was my third birth though. (First was no false alarms, when contractions began I proceeded into full labour, 17 hours in total).

Consort that's quick ! What were ur other 2births like timewise? As this is my third and the first time I've had these pains on and off ? My other two were spontaneous and both took about 4 hours.
