When did you gain pregnancy weight?

I'm not really worried but just wondering what is normal. I'm 20 weeks and have only put on about 5 kilos/7 pounds since getting pregnant.

When I got pregnant, I had a BMI of 22 so not overweight, so that doesn't explain the small weight gain. I'm eating a bit more than usual and definitely not stinting myself! My mum is a similar size to me and she was enormous during pregnancy so I am a bit surprised not to be gaining more.

Is this normal? I have read that someone with my BMI should expect to gain 25-35 pounds during the pregnancy, so is it all going to hit me during the next 20 weeks?

I gained 11lbs throughout my entire pregnancy - after losing a stone and a half in the first few weeks.

Everyone's different, as long as you are eating well - that's all that matters. Smile

A couple of stone straight away I exploded this time.

Chunkychicken · 20/07/2012 15:00

I gain regularly throughout, regardless of how much or little I eat.

With DD, I started off slightly heavier but had the same sort of weight gain as I have had with this pg (DC#2, 22wks) despite not having much ms, whereas this time, I've eaten loads in the first trimester to off-set the sickness. The books/'experts' all say nothing in the first trimester, some 2nd trimester, loads in the 3rd, but in both my pg, it seems to be a steady rate of increase.

Whatever your body is doing, its doing it and you can't change it!! Eat as healthily as you can manage, stay as active as you can & all being well, you will have a lovely healthy baby at around 40wks, whether you've gained 5 stone or 1...

I gained very little up to 18 weeks and have gained about 4kg since then. Bmi 20 before pregnancy. I'm 25 weeks now. Everything measuring fine.

minipie · 20/07/2012 15:09

Sorry just realised my OP should say 5 kilos/9 pounds. My maths is off Blush That makes it seem a bit more normal...

It's not that I'm worried exactly (I know the main thing is just to eat healthily) it's more that I'm curious as to whether this means I'll gain loads later or not necessarily.

Sounds like not necessarily!

Most of it in 2nd trimester it's slowed a bit in the third which has surprised me as at 39 weeks I'm so inactive now. Maybe i will now magically put on another stone Grin

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 20/07/2012 15:20

Not the best person to respond but here's my input...
I lost half a stone in first trimester (down to 7.5 stone, v thin) thanks to all day, all night sickness. Then, when that went away I think I went a bit crazy...
I stopped weighing myself at 40 weeks when I topped 13 st Blush

As small defence DS was 10lb... Can't think why....

Now pregnant with DC2 and longing to be out of the weight loss horrible first bit and thinking I might try and curb the gorging this time...

Cheekychops84 · 20/07/2012 15:23

If it's any consolation icouldbejoseph I weigh a lot more then that Blush

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 20/07/2012 15:25

minipie I put on about 7/8lbs in the first 12 weeks but nothing since. Babies still battering me though so I'm not worrying! Be happy you're not enormous yet Grin

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 20/07/2012 15:26

It's all relative Wink ... I'm a very slight person but when pregnant I ate like never before. I got a bit twitchy if I didn't have enough food in the house.
Would be scoffing main meal already planning what I was going to have after that, and after that....

AtaleOfTwoCities · 20/07/2012 15:26

I gained it a allll at the end. Until 20 weeks I was still sick and had lost weight. It's going that way again. Don't worry at all it's sounds more than fine.

AGiraffeUnderTheFloorBoards · 20/07/2012 15:34

I'm 21 weeks (3rd pregnancy) and already gained about 16 pounds as had the "if I don't eat RIGHT NOW I'll be sick" in the first trimester...

I got a pregnancy weight gain app on my phone to monitor my BMI as put on a lot in last two pregnancies and just couldn't face all the "lordy woman how many babies you got in there" type comments.......wanted to keep track of it this time round. I've gained more because the rain has put me off going out for walks and being more generally more active. Already been asked if I'm expecting twins even though in Top shop size 10 maternity jeans....

Try not to worry though - everyone has a comment to make whatever size you are. I lost the weight both times and gained about 4 stone first time round and 3.5 2nd time. I also went 2 weeks over both times and put on 5 pounds a week just lying around and eating massive hot curries attempting to bring on labour... which didn't work but tasted great.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/07/2012 15:40

I put on weight mostly during the 2nd trimester, both times.

twizzlestix · 20/07/2012 17:34

Very little in first 2 trimesters(5.5lbs) but am 34weeks and have gained at least that in the last 4 weeks! Was quite shocked when I checked due to such slow initial weight gain. Eating habits haven't changed at all Confused

Clarella · 21/07/2012 00:02

Hi mini and stacey! I've just worked out Im almost 22 wks and have put on 12 lb but was quite slim (and not tall) before with bmi around 20 and also since signed off work from 9 to 21 weeks haven't done half the charging around I usually do so prob similar to you in reality. Most was oddly before 16 weeks and I've only put 3lb on in the last 6 weeks. My sis said she piled it on at first and not so much later on. Ask the midwife perhaps but am sure its ok

tumblebug · 21/07/2012 09:13

Hi minipie, I was just the same. Bmi 22 to start. Gained nothing in first trimester, then a steady pound a week since. Now 35 weeks and just tried scales but they're broken but been eating loading this week, and bump suddenly feeling huge!! People keep commenting how 'neat' I am, or that I'm 'all bump' but at this rate I'll have gained 2 stone by the end. A couple of weeks ago I was worrying about being small, but saw midwife who said all measured and looked normal, and feeling huge now.

PreciousPuddleduck · 21/07/2012 09:20

Hi, I'm quite tall and size 10-12 and only put on 7 kg by end of pregnancy. I just ate my normal diet with the odd kit kat thrown in to make up for lack of wine. DD weighed 7.12 so she was a good size. Back in my old jeans within 2 weeks of DD. Don't worry about it, just go with the flow. Good luck :)

Midgetm · 21/07/2012 13:36

Sounds about right to me. I put on a couple lb in the first, largely because too knackered to do anything, BMI 21 to start. then about a stone since, but at least 7 of those are since 20weeks plus and soon to be going into third trimester. Hoping it will slow down a bit but fairly happy it's baby's and not pies. Aiming for 28llbs in total. For me it was around 20 weeks when it went to a steady 1lb a week.
