Would you ask for an early scan?

I'm somewhere between 5-9 weeks. I have my first hospital appt in 4 weeks with a scan. The hospital said I could ask GP to refer me to the EPU for an earlier scan but that involves a) going to GP again and b) trying to fit an appt around work when I work an hour + away from the hospital and we are short staffed so I'd need to work around that (haven't told work yet).plus childcare when I've not told my parents yet!
I'd like to have some idea of a due date and see baby but is that enough to justify asking for an earlier scan?

If you're definitely not more than 9w I think you'd be best to wait till the scan you have booked. If there was a chance you could be further along then I'd ask for an earlier dating scan in case you go in 4w and end up being too late for the screening tests that are done at the 12w scan (between 11ish and 13ish weeks).

And congratulations :)

They don't do NT scans here so it's fine to be much later than 12 weeks.
With dd3 I had a lot of pain and had an early scan but am not hurting that much this time yet

I was given an early scan when I had no idea of my dates (I could have been 5 weeks or 13 weeks).

Did someone tell you to have one State? Think that's my problem, it seems to be my choice!

Yes, I guess so. I went to my GP and told her I was pregnant but did not know how many weeks and could have been more than 4-6 weeks either way, the GP sent me to the ante-natal unit at the local hospital, who scanned me to find out my dates.

Otherwise I may have missed the 12 week tests...

Which were you state? (just curious! :) )

HaitchJay · 19/07/2012 17:58

I meant to ask that too

I was 5 weeks! But I honestly had no idea. Had been living in a developing world country, been on the pill for a decade, really didn't know how pregnant I was. The NHS midwives and GP were very nice about it.

HaitchJay · 20/07/2012 15:23

I was on the pill this time and with dd1/2 only reason I know I'm not more than 9 is because I had a scan then for some strange bleeding !
