Reduced movements ... I think?

The pasts few days I feel like I've not really felt baby move that much. I'm 24+5 and I have been feeling flutters for at least 4 weeks now and the past 1-2 very distict kicks (nb no one else can feel them yet but DH had seen belly move) I've noticed the past few days I've not really been as aware.
I think it may be because I had been Off work and now that I'm back I'm just busier . Yesterday I felt I hadn't really felt much, but then I was sitting last night n felt a few kicks. Then today I feel like I've not really felt much. And when I do they feel softer somehow. I think I'm imagining it though and it's just that now I don't have the time to sit around all day watching for kicks.
Oh I don't know ??

At 24 weeks, baby isn't really in a routine so can be difficult to feel regular movement. Have you spoken to your mw?

WillowTheWitch · 18/07/2012 20:20

No for that reason apple I know movement is a novelty so early on it's just because it had been so distinct last week . Usually quite active at night so will see how I am tonight I think and if very quiet I will phone mw tomorrow .

I know how you feel willow - I think that movement is the only indicator we have of baby's wellbeing so it's easy to be anxious.

if it helps, I definitely noticed less movement when I was busier.

What I ended up doing, on "quieter" days was to lie down at the same time every night, usually about 8pm and monitor how long it took to get 10 kicks. Most days it happened pretty quickly- but some days baby would be asleep so I'd have to get up, move around etc. Iced water usually got things started...or some food. That usually gave me reassurance that all was OK.

HTH

Thanks ohdaddy this is my second dc and I feel so much more anxious about everything this time . I think it may be because I was very young when I had DD so I was just naive an assumed everything would be fine . And the fact that I work within mental health / Disability is adding to it . I think too much knowledge can be a hindrance sometimes.

Anyway I lay down there and felt a good few kicks so I feel better now . I think I will start to keep an eye on it .

That's so weird saying that it would never have entered my mind to do that with DD !! Oh the optimism of youth Grin

I totally agree Willow - definitely too much knowledge can be a hindrance.

I didn't find my midwife very helpful either. She just said "oh, as long as you get ten kicks a day". I used to get 30 kicks before lunchtime, so if one day I'd only had 10 kicks by bedtime that would be a significant reduction in movements for me. Hence my nightly checking at 8pm!

Huge congratulations on your second pregnancy.

Hi

I am 28 weeks today (first baby) and I am feeling nervous about my baby's movements as I am supposed to feel her every day.

I went to the mw on Monday and heard the baby's heart so I was reassured. When I asked the mw about what I should do if I feel nervous about the movements, she said I should take some time, sit down, eat something sweet or have a fizzy drink and settle for one hour to check if the baby is moving. If no movement, I should call the hospital as the scan is the only thing that will tell me if the baby is happy..... which kind of spoiled my reassured feeling after hearing the heartbeat.

I can't believe next time I see my baby is when she comes out.

Bit nerve racking

WillowTheWitch · 18/07/2012 22:26

Thanks I feel a lot better now I think it is just because now I'm back at work I don't have the luxury of lying on the couch watching tv Grin I had a wee lie down there and feel so much better.

I've not even met my midwife yet every time I go it's Someone covering the clinic . I'm not due to go again for another 6 weeks .

How old is your baby ohdaddy ?

hi willow - 4 months and gorgeous.

I think frogalou's advice is good. It's hard though as they definitely have their quieter days... I worry just as much now he is here mmmm

GrandPoohBah · 18/07/2012 23:38

I was thinking this - I'm 20+4 and I get definite movements every day (and have done over the last couple of weeks), but I know it's too early to really 'monitor'. I've felt like I've had fewer over the last 3 or 4 days, but I actually think that I might be getting used to them so I don't stop every time I feel it - and they're not strong enough to be properly invasive.

frogalou · 21/07/2012 19:50

Ah! Ironically I went to hospital today. I could not feel the little one last night, and just slightly this morning. I followed the mw's advice and as I woke up, I had coffee and toast, waiting for some wriggling.... nothing. I called the hospital and was advised to go for a 30 min walk and come back have a cold drink and some food to see if she moved.... did all that and still nothing.

I called back and they said that I should come in. When I went in, they did a tracking, which is to listen to the heart beat for about 30min to an hour with a paper coming out of the machine so you can see the pattern. Her heart was beating at various rhythms so we waited till she settled (took an hour ish).

The mw said that sometimes around 28 weeks the baby moves around and with my placenta in the front, it makes it harder to feel. Also, I think I was pretty dehydrated yesterday so that would have not helped.

They were really nice and did not make me feel like I wasted their time.

When I left they said to come if I ever feel that she is not moving etc.

It was well worth it as I know I would have worried all day if I hadn't gone.
