I am m ovign from Kent to Ilkley next week and I have a c-section booked in down here. Ihave been told that I can have a choice of about 4 hospitals, Airdale, Bradford and the 2 in Leeds. Any help out there??

I've had both of my DD's in Leeds General Infirmary. I really can't fail the care. They have been brilliant both times. I would war you that LGI is an extremely busy maternity department, but given that you will be booked in for section, it shouldn't matter. I also have friends who have had babies at St James' with no complaints. No idea about Airedale, but this would be the closest to Ilkley, LGI and St J's are quite a distance away. HTH

Leeds LGI and St James pretty much work in conjunction with each other as they do get busy. I had several friends booked in at LGI but were sent to St James and vice versa. As you're having a booked c-section that probably won't affect you though. Both are good - I went to St James (EMCS) and the staff were fab.

I've heard very good things about Harrogate though - it'd be a bit closer for you than the leeds ones.

I had both my two DCs at Leeds General Infirmary too. We had problems with DD feeding and the staff weren't much help so in the end i discharged myself (over 10 years ago). With DS i had no problems as i'd opted for a same day discharge.

As just Lemonade said, it's a very busy maternity unit so it's easy to get overlooked. I hear that St James is equally busy though if you're booking a c-section i'm sure either of them will be well prepared for you.

I don't know anyone who's given birth at Airedale but a friend of mine who lives close to Ilkley had her emergency cs at Harrogate Hospital and was very impressed with the care she got there. Maybe they'll give you as an option?

Had my last babies at airedale & will be same for this one. Can't fault the maternity care, they're greaDidnt have section though but ny step mum had 2 sections there & had no problems. Ilkleys lovely, we live just around the corner & DH works there. Hope the move goes well.

I can't help you on the hospital front, but wish you good luck for the move. Ilkley and the surrounding area is lovely.

Hi exiled, I've just moved from Leeds to Ilkley a couple of weeks ago and am expecting my third. I had my other two at LGI 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 years ago and had excellent care both times. The first time DD wouldn't latch on and they kept me in until I was successful feeding her. I'm currently reviewing my options for number 3 and there is a group on Saturdays at the local Surestart centre called Birth Choices or something who may be of some help (haven't been myself yet!) as they look at options locally.
I'm thinking LGI for number 3 at the moment but it might be too far away.

I'm originally from Kent too and if you fancy meeting up with another ilkley newbie feel free to message me on here. If not all the best with the move and the baby!

Thank you all for the advice. I was told that Harrogate was a midwife led unit and therefore wouldn't be an option. Living in Burley in Wharfedale through so a bit closer to Leeds (I am a bit biased as a Jimmys baby). Pochemuchka would love to meet up and I will message you when we move, as my other DS is 8 and will be in School once I have the baby in September.

Just an update. I have chosen LGI as my hospital. Just waiting for a consultant appointment to come through now. I hope that DC decides to wait and not put in an early appearance
