hello, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to put this message, but I hope some of you lovely pregnant ladies might be able to help...
I am trying to organise a baby shower for a friend this weekend. I've booked a table in a restaurant and there will be 5 of us. Any ideas of what we can do? We can't play a lot of the more obvious baby shower games because we can't move around too much, but it would be nice to do something! Has anyone been to a baby shower in a restaurant - and if so what did you do?
Any ideas would be gratefully received! Thanks, Sara x

Sorry, I seem to have wandered into the American version of mumsnet!
I shall waddle out again where this 7th circle of hell doesn't exist.

What a spectacularly rude and unhelpful post Moogster. If you haven't got anyhting useful to say, why say anything?

Sara how about the game where everyone brings a baby photo of themselves and the mum-to-be has to guess whose photo is whose?

takingthestairs · 18/07/2012 09:54

Hi Sara79,

What about a little quiz on the Mum to be? I second the photo game too, it's so much fun.

on a side note: Moogster1a so what if a baby shower is an American tradition? boo-fricking-hoo.
Christmas trees used to be a German tradition. Times change. Hop down off your high horse before you give yourself a nose bleed.

Another one I heard about (wasn't there so bit sketchy on the details!) was to name as many songs as you can with 'baby' in the title? Something like that anyway.

Sara79 · 18/07/2012 10:05

Wow Moogster, i thought that these forums were supposed to be helpful and supportive. I am obviously out of my comfort zone with planning this baby shower and want to do something nice for my friend. I really wish you had kept your thoughts to yourself - what was the point of your message?

Thank you so much takingthestairs and aworryingtrend. Yes, i will do the quiz and photo game! Thanks for your help!

You could also google baby/child pics of the rich and famous to make a quiz.

Baby showers are an American tradition but this doesn't sound like one of those huge, graspy affairs at all (which I hate). Just a few friends, a meal and a celebration- sounds lovely.

Aworryingtrend · 18/07/2012 10:42

What about matching the name of the celebrity baby/child (Apple, Moonfruit, Maxwell whatever) to the celebrity parents?

Good luck in plannign your shower, it sounds lovely and I'm sure you will have a great time. Ignore joyless ignorant people!

Sounds like a lovely idea Sara.

I had my baby shower recently (and no, I didn't get gifts, it was just my closest friends and family getting together for a lovely meal and chat but I did have guests complaining that I said no gifts.... guess you can't win!), anyway, it was 10 of us in a restaurant/cafe setting so very similar to what you are planning for your friend.

We chatted for a while, ate and then had a quiz in teams which was so much fun. There was a 'guess which celebrity this is from their baby photo' round, a 'guess the baby statistic' round and, my personal favourite, a 'celebrity baby name or indie band' round where an unusual moniker was read out (eg. Moxie Crimefighter) and we had to guess whether it was the name of a celebrity's child or a band - it was hilarious!

We also did a bit of a sweepstake (but without the money!) on the baby's weight, date of birth and hair.

Is it an American tradition? Yes but it was lovely to see all my friends together before the baby gets here and enjoy myself! It didn't harm anyone and really perked me up during these last few weeks of pregnancy.

It sounds like you are planning something fab for your friend!

Thank you everyone. I have found a couple of quizzes on the internet which i've printed and will look into doing a guess the baby quiz too. sounds fun! I think it should be nice. I hope it's similar to yours glittershoes - a nice meal, chatting and a bit of baby-based fun to make it a bit different from a normal meal! It's a surprise for her, and she has had a very tough time lately so I hope that this will perk her up as you say!
Thanks again everyone for your very helpful suggestions!
