Why (oh why) am I sicker this time than last pregnancy??

I assumed this pregnancy would be the same as my first (which I sailed through) - I am so gutted! I feel absolutely awful, feeling sick as soon as I wake up, was retching changing DD's nappy just now. Last time I felt fine in the mornings, then queasy in the afternoons, and I was never actually sick. I haven't been actually sick this time, but I feel it's a matter of time - I am getting that horrible mouth filling with saliva thing Sad

But WHY?? Will this baby be a different sex? Or is it because I am more tired and less healthy than last time? Is there anything I can do about it?

Maybe you are having twins. Or quads!

doblet · 18/07/2012 08:27

I'm the same, except last time I had no sickness or nausea and this time I'm sick all day Sad

First pregancy nothing but occasional nausea. Second time was vomiting about ten times a day. Miserable. Better by 16 weeks though. First was a boy, second a girl. Maybe different sexes?

The worst thing for me though was that I felt really down for the first 15wks though. Not depressed but not far off. I am a really sunny person normally and I was so low. It did pass though.

My second pregnancy was much worse than my first. The resulting children are different sexes. Hope you feel better soon.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2012 09:04

My second has bern much worse than my first. Both girls. However I've noticed that I'm much more ill when I'm tired, which is basically all the time with a toddler. Try to get lots of sleep, it really does help.

1st pregnancy, a week of feeling ill at 8 weeks, this time around feeling and being ill 24/7 from 4+1. I'm 16+5 and it seems to have passed over the last few days but still exhausted!

it will pass Smile

1st pregnancy was great.. 2nd pregnancy, sickness, spd, horrendous heartburn. Both boys.
There is 5 years between them and I think this is a factor.

It's horrible isn't it - I'm 17 weeks at the moment with number 2 (same sex as the first one) - first time round, I felt a bit rough but not too bad - this time - oh horrendous!! I couldn't eat or drink, regularly threw up in the car in front of poor shocked DS1 and ended up having to get my Mum to come and stay to help - was dreadful - nothing different from first time around except that it's a different baby. I was terrified it was a multiple too but just the one baby in there (making me feel dreadful!) If it helps at all, I got on medication which made if bearable and it started getting better about 10 weeks and completely gone by 13 - hope that happens for you - take it easy if you can and get some help in if at all possible.

No helpful advice, just wanted to say me too. Actually tested at 3+2 this time because I was so ill so soon. I thought I was bad last time, turns out I was very wrong!

tiddleypompom · 18/07/2012 09:55

countess I share your pain. I breezed through pregnancy last time - bloomed from 10 weeks and prior to then just grazed all day. No sickness. This time (early days) I feel bloody awful. Sick changing nappies (open window in DS room, change nappy, bung DS in cot, run to bathroom & barf), can smell vileness everywhere, am too hot, feel like I have just stepped off a boat from the moment I wake to being asleep (ridiculously early).

I would cry if it were twins.

Reckon it's the tiredness that makes it feel so much worse - no taking it easy/putting feet up etc when you've a toddler to tame.

Hope we feel better soon & go on to have lovely hair/skin/etc. Best of luck meantime.

me too - rare moments of intense feelings of fainting but this time - constant sickness and cravings, salt and vingar crisps was main one....sick from morning till night and actually sick too alot.

however it is same sex baby!

I'm 5+5 and sharing your pain... feeling properly horrendous for the first time today. Last time round I was nauseous 24/7 til at least 16 weeks... I was trying to tell myself every pregnancy is different but unfortunately looks like I'm in for another crazy ride... Such a depressing thought.

I know tiredness and low blood sugar that make it worse, but I travel a lot for work and also with a toddler those 2 things are pretty much inevitable... This is my first foray back onto Mumsnet in a while, but as usual good to know there are others out there who understand how awful it is.

Chunkychicken · 18/07/2012 16:45

I too felt much worse this time, although it did stop at roughly 14wks this time as it did with my DD. I'm now 22wks & didn't find out the sex, so not sure if its bad luck or due a boy (and its not really age, as there's only 2.5yrs difference). I think its just that every pg is different, unfortunately!!

LimeLeafLizard · 18/07/2012 17:10

I was a bit nauseous until 13 weeks with my first
I was very nauseous until 16 weeks with my second
I was very nauseous and vomited about twice a week until my due date with my third.

All three are boys.

This time my nausea started about a week ago. I am 10 weeks today and threw up for the first time this morning.
