Thank you to the great midwives out there!

We all hear lots of negativity about midwives and the poor care that some of us receive. I thought it a good idea to counter that and offer my thanks to the midwives out there who really care and make a difference.

Thanks to the community midwife at my doctors surgery who has plenty of time to support me and the knowledge to reassure me and the fantastic ones I've encountered at the Royal Surrey.

Can I praise the team at St Thomas's Hospital in London? Helped me through a late MC last year, and have all been amazing this so far (am 30+5).

Astounded by the level of care they provide and their respect and gentleness for Mums, while the service they work for is being pulled apart and their future is so uncertain. Big up the midwives!

I'd like to jump in and say a HUGE thank you to the Midwives at Warrington Hospital. They put up with my moaning about wanting to go home when I had to go into the hospital at only 2cm dilated due to heavy bleeding. They let me go for a walk when my contractions stopped. They were incredibly reassuring when my bleeding got very bad just after DH had gone home due to visiting hours. They left DH and I to our own devices in the delivery suite, and didn't complain that I bled/ leaked water/ was sick all over them for hours. Despite my plan for a natural birth going completely out of the window, they did let DH and I do non-directed pushing which resulted in our beautiful DD being pushed out in 15 mins after a loooong 30 hours of waiting.

They were so helpful on the ward after the birth, even though they were obviously short on staff due to cuts. I never once felt like I was troubling them. One MW even went as far as to sneak some bottles out to us the day we came home after I phoned up crying to say that DD was refusing to breastfeed (she has tongue tie), wouldn't take the bottles we had and hadn't fed for nearly 9 hours.

I'm with you on this. A huge thank you to all the MW at Crowborough birthing centre. The most amazing ladies. Always there to help with great advice for a first time pregnant, more than slightly mental lady! Still got 10 or so weeks left and I have no doubt they'll be supporting me for many months to come :)

me too - my MW at first birth were amazing, as was CM midwife.

Yes - Thank you to the MW at Chippenham Birthing Centre, for being so caring/laid back which was the reason for my lovely relaxing water birth with my first child.

thankyou to zarina and dawn of the thames midwives in south east london (greenwich) who delivered me!!! amazing wonderful skilled ladies who made me feel safe and in good hands

thanks to zarina who calmed me down so much my contractions stopped and thanks to dawn who squirted cold cream all over me during the crowning bit so that I wouldnt feel it so much..lool

Im training to become a midwife now and hope to be like you ladies someday :)

Thanks to the student mw and her supervisor who delivered DS at Wigan Infirmary. They were both wonderful, put up with the mad air-raid siren noises that I was making (according to DH anyway) and got both DS and I through what could have been a very tricky birth completely unscathed.

Would also like to thank the community midwives who are putting up with all my dithering and multiple questions about a hb this time round. If all goes to plan, it will be one of them who delivers this DC.

Nice thread. Another one here for the midwives at St Thomas's, who were brilliant when I mc'd my first baby at 11 weeks - one in particular had a truly incredible presence and managed to make me feel calmer just being in the same room. Also the lovely community midwives of Lewisham who helped me have a wonderful home birth and delivered my beautiful dd three years ago.

I just wanted to add another bit of love for the midwives at St Thomas' - they were fabulous and supportive during the birth of DS1 7 years ago, and have been great during this pregnancy too - one in particular who made phone calls and had me transferred to caseload at my request, so
I can go ahead and plan a home birth

Which leads me on to mention the lovely Clapham Midwives who have taken me on despite not being strictly in their catchment - THANK YOU.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank you to all the MWs who visited before, during and after DD2s home birth you were all brilliant.

Another one for St Thomas' - particularly the Valley caseload team, and my utterly awesome midwife who I love dearly.

And the lovely MWs on the antenatal ward who hugged me and kept my spirits up when I was there for three weeks.

They have all inspired me so much, I am seriously considering retraining as a MW.

Thank you to the fabulous midwives at Arrowe Park on the Wirral. Made me feel like I had loads of mum's with me during births of dd1 and dd2. Both times student midwives have done the delivery and were fantastic people and I couldn't have done it without them.

Massive respect for what they do.

St Thomas's sounds so lovely I think I want to go and work there!
