Just checked the website and it just says:

Pregnancy

You should not give blood if you are pregnant or you are a woman who has had a baby in the last 6 months.

Not very helpful as it doesn't say what the problem is...

I know I should have been more careful re timing but a) was not actively TTC again yet following a mc in March, and b) I did test the day before just in case even tho I had no reason to suppose I might be pg symptom-wise - yes I do know how it happens! Blush

I did feel pretty drained for the next couple of days so hopefully that's why they advise against it. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

I am only guessing here but I imagine the reason they advise against it is because your blood works harder when you are pregnant (as the baby uses it too in effect) so you are less able to afford to lose a bit. Post pregnancy you may be breastfeeding or still recovering from blood lost after birth.

Much less likely to be an issue in v early pregnancy though since the embryo/foetus is still so small so relatively little extra demand on your blood iyswim.

I would say "stock up" your blood supply again as quickly as you can, i.e. eat lots of nourishing food (red meat esp), have lots of fluids, and do take pregnancy supplements too if you have them. But otherwise, I really wouldn't worry.

Oh and congratulations by the way Grin

Thanks! That's what I was hoping, tho feeling a little nervous anyway as I don't feel at all pregnant this time.

Note to self: must not borrow trouble!

I did this when (unknown to me) four weeks pregnant. DS1 is fine and a strapping 18yo.

I gave blood on a Thursday, got a positive test on the Sunday, son is now a very healthy 29 month old so I don't think you need to worry.
