how early can the baby get hiccups?

I am coming up to 20 weeks and I could swear the baby has hiccups this evening. I started feeling him move very early, I think because I had lost a lot of weight (hyperemesis) and he wiggles and jiggles loads so I am used to feeling him move. But this feels a bit different, as if his whole body is jerking at about the right interval for hiccups. I know they can get them in the womb when they are practising breathing with the amniotic fluid, but can it start this early? Any relevant anecdotes?

DP is in France for the weekend so I am on my own with no-one to share this with! A shame as you can easily feel it from the outside and he hasn't caught a kick yet. This is my first baby by the way so nothing to compare to.

My baby had hiccups when we had the nuchal scan at 13 weeks, so definitely not too early! We could see his/her head going back with every hiccup, twas fascinating.

Thanks terry! Amazing that they start so early.
