Rate of baby's heartbeat and gender prediction??

I saw the Midwife yesterday for my 31 weeks check up.

She checked the baby's heart beat - which was strong and regular (hoorah!) - and whilst checking, she said "I think you're having a girl".
When asked why, she said girls tend to have slightly faster heartbeats than boys (my baby's was 150 bpm).

So, I just wondered if this was a typical 'old wives tale' or whether there was actually any truth in it??

Thanks!

Load of rubbish imo, based on a huge sample size of one... I was told throughout my pregnancy and labour that I was having a boy based on heartbeat (at all scans) and bump size/shape.

Two years on and still no penis in sight... ;)

Surely the heart rate depends on what they are doing in there at the time, ie if baby is asleep it will be lower than if its just doing its daily exercise? Grin

I think the general thought is below 150bpm is a boy and above is a girl. I'm not sure I believe it though, the heartrate slows the further into your pregnancy you get.it is common pre 13 weeks for it to be between 160-180 and my 3 have been and I've got 2 boys and a girl.

Thanks - Im thinking its just another myth along with the size/shape of your bump etc! We dont know what we're having and didnt find out at the 20 weeks scan and dont mind either way at all so we'll just have to wait and see!!

Am 38 weeks and don't know what we're having, went to be monitored the other day, highest it went was 178bpm (it felt like there was a party going on in there!) lowest about 120 and averaged about 130/135 so only time will tell!!!
