Bio Oil - love it or hate it?

I hate the rotten stuff. Bought a large bottle of it as everyone has said how good it is for preventing / lessening stretch marks.

It has a funny smell, doesn't spread over my skin very well and just sits there, taking forever to soak in, so I can't put it on in the morning before I get dressed.

It was damn expensive too so being the stubbon moo that I am, I'm going to use it all, but never again!

What do the rest of you think?

I used it in my last pregnancy and thought it was good, this time around I've changed my mind. It gave me eczema all over my bump and boobs! I'm using palmers stretch mark cream now and it's much better.

FireOverBabylon · 12/07/2012 10:23

I hate it. It is sooo expensive and takes forever to sink in. I hated walknig around cold when pregnant waiting to get dressed or having great slick marks on clothes where it hadn't soaked in.

I used this. Cheaper, soaked in quickly and no stretch marks.

I read somewhere (don't ask me where, 'cos I can't remember!) that there's been some research into stretching during pregnancy and, apparently, using oil DURING pregnancy makes not a jot of difference to whether you get stretch marks. However, it can be very effective afterwards for some reason.

I love it! Not a stretch mark in sight yet but have run out so have switched to e45 until I can replenish! Do have fairly dry skin though so it absorbs beautifully and makes my skin lovely and soft

Pinkflipflop · 15/07/2012 15:40

I hate this shite! I bought a huge bottle of it and can't use it as it smells vile and doesn't soak in.

Am I going to end up a stretch markey old hag? Confused

I like it - I like the smell and it doesn't take that long to sink in. I have used Palmers cocoa butter before and like the product on my skin but I can't bear the smell. Even the fragrance free (which is just the normal product with a masking agent, as that smell is natural) version reeked of that weird chocolate smell to me.

My mum has got me a bottle of Boo Boo baby oil next so I'll use that when my current bottle of Bio oil runs out. I think it's just a posh version of Bio oil?

I tend to agree it's probably mostly genetic but then so are wrinkles and I'm doing everything I can to stave off those via expensive products too!

Bio oil nice but despite religious application I still got stretch marks...maybe they'd have been worse without the oil?

Badgerina · 15/07/2012 23:16

Bleurgh! Confused I use Clarins Tonic Oil. Fucking expensive, but really, bloody good Grin

stowsettler · 16/07/2012 11:18

Saw my MW today who said it's a total waste of money and whether or not you get stretch marks depends on your genes and adipose levels. But we all knew that anyway...

Spuddybean · 16/07/2012 15:01

I love it. DP has rubbed it into my stomach and boobs every night since i was 6 weeks pregnant. He rubs it in thoroughly so it soaks in quite well. It also means he bonds a bit with the baby and we use the time to talk etc.

Oh and i haven't got a stretch mark yet (34 wks) but i do have good skin/genes so i think that is not necessarily why.

When the bio oil ran out i bought Superdrug's version which is cheaper and has a different smell.

milkyjo · 16/07/2012 15:11

Yay for Palmers lotion (not the greasy solid stuff). I started using bio oil but got a horrible dry sore rash! I still have it on the bathroom shelf 2 years on! I had no stretch marks but as others have said I'm not sure whether it makes any difference what products you use or whether it is genetic.

FoxyRoxy · 17/07/2012 00:40

I love it! I use it twice a day and I love the smell. I also use bump butter by palmers and some pregnancare one that came free with my vits. I have oily mediterranean skin and it soaks in quickly for me.

No new stretchmarks as yet and I'm 32 weeks.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 17/07/2012 01:41

Used it everyday with ds and didn't get any stretch marks but, lordy, the smell. It makes me feel ill now as it reminds me of all day morning sickness.

Dualta · 23/07/2012 21:08

I used it and didn't get stretch marks - which I have gotten before from weight gain (non pregnancy related) - so I reckon it worked for me.
