Periods with pregnancy-type syptoms post partum...

Hello,

I started my periods again 5 weeks after DD was born (she's just turned 4 months), and I know it was likely they would be irregular & take a while to return to normal (actually they're back to pretty regular cycles already). However, the last two cycles I've had what's exactly like early pregnancy symptoms in the build up- I've never had these in the past, except for when I was pregnant. These include the obvious ones like strong tummy cramps, but more specific things like a dramatic increase in blue veins, a metallic taste, stuffy nose, ligament type pain around the pelvis, an acute sense of smell, slight faint headedness, queasiness, blood freckles & those tiny light brown chloasma skin patches etc... It freaked me out a bit last month though we're using contraception & I thought it was very unlikely I could be pregnant- then my period came right when it should have, and I felt better again, then exactly the same this cycle.

Anyway, I know the advice is to keep an eye on it/ check with GP if worried etc -which I will- but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything like this after having a baby? We're not TTC, so it's definitely not symptom spotting, but it's just a bit alarming having all those symptoms that make you feel like you're in early pregnancy when you're not. Also, this time I had some brown spotting for a day mid-cycle which could possibly have been an ovulation bleed? Again, I've never had this before, and again we are being very careful, so I don't think it could have been an implantation bleed. Just a bit baffled, really. Due to see the HV fairly soon, so I'll bring it up with her...

I guess it's just my hormones settling down (I'm still partially BFing, so they could be quite muddled) but any thoughts welcomed..

I didn't have that problem after either of my dds, but I am now having it after a miscarriage. I have had 3 periods since the mc and for the week before my period I've felt very pregnant. It's wierd and as I've never really been affected much by monthly hormones I'm a bit freaked out by it. I'm going to give it a few months and if I haven't gone back to normal for me then I'll be going to see the gp. I hope someone else comes along with more advice/information about it for you.

I had loooooads of pregnancy symptoms when I came off the pill - I'd think it's just your hormones settling back down?

Thanks for your replies. Really sorry to hear about your mc, Good, I hope your symptoms go soon. I was thinking of giving it a month or two, too. Fluffy- I was on the pill for years before I got pregnant (happy accident) so I suspect it is just the hormones going doolally... X
