Everyone has a bump but me

Hi all,

Why does everyone have a bump but me? I am 17+6 with my first and I dont have even the smallest bump. One of my colleagues who is due 2 weeks after me is huge.

What's wrong with me? I'm starting to feel like a fraud - telling people i'm pregnant but no sign of anything other than a limp from my pelvis. People ask do I feel movement yet, I feel ashamed to say 'no'.

Thanks!

Char x

Don't worry i'm 17+5 with my first and don't have much of a bump either. Just a little one when I lie down.

My mum was the same with her first and didn't show until 8 months!!!! The midwife told her to thank her lucky stars.

My MW said to me that at this stage there is so much room for the baby to hide you probably won't show much before 18-20 weeks anyway.

Make the most of it :)

A lot of midwives seem to say that you won't have a bump or feel movement until 20 weeks I think. I stopped holding my gut in had a small bump by 20 weeks and felt the first definite movement at nearly 19 weeks so I don't think there's anything strange about what you're experiencing.

Also subsequent pregnancies tend to show earlier, just because everything's been stretched already.

I know how you feel being impatient to get your bump - it will turn up soon!

Stop comparing bumps! At my antenatal class there was a lady who was 7 months pregnant and looked like she'd had a large dinner and was a tad bloated, whilst other ladies were enormous! Everyone's bump is different, as is everyones pregnancy and labour.

I started feeling fluttery movements at 16 weeks, but I think your first baby is meant to take longer to feel, if I remember rightly it can be up to 21 weeks before you feel any movements. You might be putting down movements to wind as well, I know I did to start with :)

At least you won't be sick to death of your maternity clothes by 30 weeks if you don't need to wear them yet! X

6months and minimal bump!!! Still in my normal size 10 trousers just looking a bit more porky!!! It'll bump when it's ready!!

Yep, I'm 24 + 5 and still no bump! I do look a bit fat though... People keep reminding me that I'll get sick of having a big bump if I have it for too long.

Everyone's different.

DangerMousey · 11/07/2012 15:13

like everyone else has said, try not to worry about it - everyone's different.

There's a woman in my antenatal swimming class who's due this week, who looks about the same amount pregnant as me, and I am 19+4!!

Beans1977 · 11/07/2012 16:28

I was desperate for a bump! Mine didn't really ping out until about 24w (am 30w PG with DC#1) and now I am enormous!

Everyone seems to change shape at different time - I have a friend a month ahead of me, a colleague a week ahead of me, and two other friends about a month after me - we all look completely different!

Beans1977 · 11/07/2012 16:30

Oh and I also didn't get regular movement until 21 weeks - now baby kicks the sh*t out of me and wakes me up at 4am, so while I know it's exciting and reassuring to feel the movements I would say enjoy the sleep while you can! x

Cheeseandonioncrisps · 11/07/2012 16:34

It will come don't worry! I had bump envy up until about 30 weeks and couldn't wait to get my 'proper bump' I was sure I would never get one.........now people are gasping in horror when they find out I've got 3 weeks left to go as I look ready to explode haha x

potas · 11/07/2012 16:54

Lol - I am now at the stage of why have I still got a bump and no baby yet!!! Its even more frustrating. At least with lack of bump you can say its due to amazing abs or lack of overeating

Tigresswoods · 11/07/2012 16:55

Wasn't even showing at 20week scan. Popped out & v definite by 25 weeks. Grin

Are you particuarly slim and fit? Maybe your stomach muscles are better than average at hiding your baby. Some women don't realise they are pregnant until late pregnancy/even labour! I imagine they didn't have obvious bumps either!
