Headache above right eye on and off at 40w...to call or not?

Hi all. I'm 40 weeks today and for the past 2 or 3 days, on and off, I've had this awful throbbing, stabbing pain above my right eye. I've tried to sleep, rested up, and took paracetamol on one occasion, which did the job for that time. I've been out for a little walk and some fresh air too, as I was wondering whether being stuck in was causing it. However, it keeps coming back. It's not as painful as it has been at the moment, but it's still there - a dull, tender pain on my forehead behind the eye.

Part of me thinks that ringing the maternity assessment unit is the best course of action, just for advice. But I have a consultant appointment tomorrow afternoon, and could mention it then instead. I don't want to waste people's time just for a headache. Any words of wisdom? (DH would like me to call the hospital to put our minds at rest, but I'm not sure).

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I think you should call them. You're not wasting anyone's time at all and it is always best to rule out high bp etc. Put both your minds at ease.
Xx

The eye headache went tonight, so decided to wait to see consultant tomorrow. Thanks for advice, Bonny...I'm sure all is fine.:-)

How are you feeling today joosie? X

Hi. Thanks for asking Bonnyone. I went to consultant appointment today, where my bp was high and he admitted me for induction ( bit of a shocker!). Stayed there from 5pm til 12.30 am when bp had normalised a bit, and then they sent me home. I've another appointment on Weds to check how I'm doing. I think they initially thought it was pre eclampsia, but urine was fine, so its pregnancy induced hypertension.

Needless to say, I will be putting my bags in the car ready, just in case I'm admitted on Weds. (Poor DH had to run around like a looney, and now the poor thing has had to go to work on 5 hours sleep!)

Gonna take it easy this morning and
have my friend round for coffee, cake and a chat as planned later, so a nice day is ahead.

Let my stupidity at not calling them about my headache be a lesson to all! Bonnyone, you are v. wise. Wink Thank you x

joosiewoosie good that you found out! I had bad back ache and called the hospital (i had had semi-high bp (150/100) with trace of protein measured by MW previously, at hospital it was measured to be within the normal limits so I was let go). Two days later i called triage because of my back ache. They told me to go to walk-in centre to see if it is preganancy related, which I did and they found out that I had high bp (177/108 ) with protein in my urine and sent me to hospital straight away and I was induced immediately.

So keep on close look how you are feeling. My bp got high in two days and protein amount increased quickly, too.

Glad they kept an eye on you Banksu and things were ok in the end. I'm taking it easy today and feel fine. Enjoyed lunch and a chat and now have my feet up in front of the telly!
Thanks again for your kind wishes Bonnyone. I always find MN so supportive, thanks to lovely folks like you two x Take care of yourselves x

If you're worried then always call. Bollocks to what anyone might think! The only important thing is your and your baby's health. If that means you call every hour then so be it.
