When do I announce my pregnancy?

I have just discovered I am very happily expecting my 2nd child. My problem is knowing when to announce it. Ideally I would like to leave it to around the 12 week mark but my job involves a fair degree of heavy lifting. I have considered faking a back problem but a couple of my collegues are also close friends and are sure to guess! Is it safe to lift during early pregnancy? Any suggestions?

Congratulations!

I would be cautious and announce your pg to those people at work who need to know, so that it can be properly agreed that you don't have to do any heavy lifting. Then between you, you can work out whether to fake a back problem for benefit of 'all and sundry'.

you shouldn't lift anything too heavy. my job involves lifting shoe boxes and i was told I was only allowed to carry one at a time! lol

I also wanted to elave it til 12 weeks but had to inform my boss as I was very ill...

I had this problem as my job involves using tall ladders on a daily basis and some lifting/stretching. I work in a small team and luckily get on well with a girl I work with, so I told her and asked her not to say anything (I knew she wouldnt) I was worried incase I had an accident at work, fainted etc. I didnt tell my boss until I was around 11 weeks.

My employer were helpful though, at 7 months pg I worked 'in the office'.

LOL, I've never had to tell, the constant running to the loo to throw up gives it away!
