Hi, just out the midwife. A bit worried. Sed that baby hb was really fast and they listened in for a couple mins til
It slowed to between 155-160. Is this normal? I'm quite worried :( I'm 24 weeks. Measuring 26 weeks

I've no idea but if you're worried either go and see the midwife again or go to the assessment unit at the hospital.

Did the midwife offer any explanation for the HB?

dylsmimi · 04/07/2012 15:55

Hi
i am not medical in any way but when i went to my 16wk check up the midwife said the heartbeat is fast especially at this stage and then in later pregnancy slows and thats normal.
did she say anything at the time? i would have thought if she was concerned then she would have said or said to come back sooner than your next appointment
if you are really worrying i would just give her a quick ring to reassure yourself. i'm sure everything is fine though.
whatever you do don't buy one of those fetal heart monitors you will drive yourself bonkers!!

The midwife sed that she might have just been moving but I told her I couldn't feel movement. The midwife who was listening to hb sed that she hadn't felt movement, they just sed they were gna listen in longer cos it was fast. Then it slowed to 155-160 bpm and that was it. Just sed they'd see me in 4 weeks for my 28 week check. The midwife who listened to hb was a student midwife

the baby could have moved without you necessarily feeling him/her. they do lots of wiggling in there and even at 24 weeks you won't feel every single movement so don;t worry
i would give them a little ring and explain what happened and if you can pop in to be re-listened to. they are there for any concerns and if you are worried about something (even if you don't need to be) then 4 weeks seems a long time iyswim

It does seem a long time to wait. I do have a Doppler. I can't just go get checked. On my own with my 2dc and ds, age 5 has severe special needs and it's not easy to get him looked after Sad

I read that normal baby's heart beat is 120-160, so , seems marginal , but best thing to do is go to the doctor! I always say - "when in dought -> no dought! go to the doctor!"

Cheekychops84 · 04/07/2012 18:15

Mine was 120 so probably too slow ? Can u check it urself ? Get a Doppler and track ?

dylsmimi · 04/07/2012 18:16

Do you have the midwifes number try ringing rather than dragging all the dcs to an appointment they should be able to reassure you over the phone but I am sure everything is fine otherwise they would refer you to hospital or have you back. Try not to worry I'm sure happy Julia is fine and it was marginally high and not in the danger zone

Notmyselfatall · 04/07/2012 18:52

Thanks everyone :) I am a bit worried but the midwife hasn't even written it in my notes that it was fast Hmm I was extremely stressed today tho and wonder if that's had an effect? My Doppler isn't very good. At one point it went right to 230!! But she was moving loads, so .... I just don't know...surely if they thought anything was wrong they'd have sent me to hospital?

The sonographer said that to me at one of my scans. He said it was because the baby was bouncing around. I would give the midwife a ring if it will put your mind at ease.

mrsXsweet · 04/07/2012 20:23

The exact same thing happened to me today but I'm only 16 weeks. The midwife and student listened for 10 mins and heart rate didn't go below 180. They asked me to go away and come back in an hour, when I went back it was hovering around 160 and so they were happier. They said it can happen if u r dehydrated or very hot.

Notmyselfatall · 04/07/2012 20:31

Hey :) don't think I'm gonna call the midwife as I think if anything I would have been sent to hospital. That's interesting mrs x, see they never told me that...if they had, then I wouldn't have been worried. . But I too was roasting today, n have been all week. The weather is so clammy lol. Hope that's why her HB was going mad

This happened to me at 24 weeks, initially really high and midwife listened for over 10 mins until it went down to just over 140. I was really worried and asked her about 3 times afterwards whether everything really was ok, she was very reassuring and said there was genuinely nothing to worry about as baby's hb jumps around just like any adult's would. She said that if it hadn't come down she would have absolutely referred me to hospital to be put on a monitor, but because it came down she was happy that all was ok. She did say that if I was very active or stressed throughout the day then that would have an impact on the baby. I was a bit hot and stressed as had been running late for the appointment!
I also have nothing in my notes about the fast hb and because I asked her so many times I do believe she would have referred me if there had been a problem.

Notmyselfatall · 04/07/2012 20:59

Smicha, that's made me feel better Smile yeh, I was roasting today and very very stressed out. Hopefully that's why her HB was soo crazy

Pleased I could reassure you. I panicked at the time too! Wanted to cry the whole 10 minutes she was listening to his heart! Hope you can relax a bit now.

fraggle500 · 04/07/2012 22:09

Hi, no helpful advice but when I went for a 28 week scan midwife said baby's heart beat was very fast..... And that was a sign that baby was a girl! Turned out to be a very energetic (now) 11 year old boy!!

Notmyselfatall · 04/07/2012 22:17

Aww, u have smicha Grin so ty Smile fraggle, I was told the same with my dc2 who turned out to be a boy too Grin shows they're not always right lol. Had a gender scan this time and was told its a lil girl :)
