God I miss smoking

That's all really. I gave up more than 6 months before I got pregnant, and am now 24 weeks. I've got no plans to start smoking again, but my god I miss it. I loved smoking. Even more than booze, naughty cheese, pate, sushi and everything else we can't do.
Still, it'll all be worth it, right?

MickeyTheShortOne · 04/07/2012 15:35

Ugh me too. Its the one thing I've craved all pregnancy :'(

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 04/07/2012 15:37

Kinda got longer term benefits than just for pregnancy Hmm you wont stink you'll be richer and you may just live longer...

Cherrychopsticks · 04/07/2012 15:58

Have you read Allen Carr's "Easy Way"?
It's how I quit, but I think it's supposed to help as a support after you've quit too.
He says it should help you stop smoking with no regrets or ongoing cravings, and it really worked for me.
When I read it, I couldn't understand how it would work, but it did.

Londonmrss · 04/07/2012 16:26

Yeah, I didn't really do any reading, I just quit with willpower. I'm not actually tempted at all- there's absolutely no way I would get anywhere near actually smoking a cigarette- I don't even want to.
To be honest I don't really get cravings either. Just sometimes I remember the beautiful ritual of rolling a cigarette and smoking it... and remember how much I loved it.
My hubby gave up at the same time, so that's something.
Glad I'm not the only one!

i was never much of a smoker but i certainly miss a Saturday evening fag with a lovely cold glass of white or a tall can, on the back step, under the apple tree. Especially now that summer is here!

Thank God I won't be pg for Xmas. I guess that's the silver lining.

Am planning fresh-oyster-and-bloody-steak-based post-partum dinner.

HappyJulia · 04/07/2012 17:50

I am so NOT missing it! I just wanted to stop smoking and the pregnancy pushed me to fix my ways :-)

swiftybaby · 04/07/2012 17:54

God I long for a fag and a glAss of wine. I was always a social smoker so not smoking has been fairly easy but I have craved cigarettes!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 04/07/2012 17:56

I have missed more than anything else. I quit the day i found out, i have not been temoted even once, i still have 5 packs a five in another one left over from when i quit.

Unlike you lovely ladies i will be starting again. I'm not an idiot, i know it will shorten my life but I am unlikely to have a long one anyway due to 'other ishoos' so Id rather it was a happy one :)

I am sooo looking forward to next week and having a very large glass of wine and a couple of ciggies to celebrate this little ones arrival!

A very excited (if somewhat Chavvy) BabyDubs Grin

swiftybaby · 04/07/2012 18:06

Baby dubs; someone asked me what I was looking forward to after babs was born the other day. I said 'A v strong G&T and a vogue menthol' Blush

BabyDubsEverywhere · 04/07/2012 18:16

Swifty you can sit with me Grin

BabyDubsEverywhere · 04/07/2012 18:17

I am even happy with the shitty weather we ar ehaving, as soon as the sun is out i seriously crave indecent quantities of nicotine and alcohol... ooo not long :)

Purplecatti · 04/07/2012 18:52

I have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and a packet of Marlboro lights in the kitchen cupboard for 'afterwards'
I keep gazing at them and sighing longingly

Londonmrss · 04/07/2012 18:56

Oh I feel fairly certain I'll be a smoker again one day! I'll just ttry and hold off as long as possible- but when me and hubby are in an old folks home in a few years, we'll be chain-smoking and drinking until the day we die.
Well, given how we all feel, I reckon we've done bloody well to quit!

i shall also be celebrating the arrival with a rollie or two!!! Thank god i wont be pregnant for christmas... Unfortunately i am pregnant for my 21st birthday... I am with those that werent really smokers... Only ever bothers me at work or when i get super stressed!

oceanstwo · 05/07/2012 10:56

Really??! You're going to smoke when you have a newborn baby to look after?

If you're stupid enough to risk getting cancer, up to you (provided you don't make me breathe in your disgusting air - although most smokers don't seem to care..) but to risk harming a baby beggars belief. And I don't care if you won't smoke over your baby: it will be on your skin, in your clothes, in your carpets. Foul.

I've had cancer. I've had chemo. It's nasty. Really really nasty. You want to avoid it if you possibly can.

[Sits back and waits for the abuse to start...]

Excitedbutscared84 · 05/07/2012 12:38

Glad its not just me - I found out I was pregnant yesterday and havent had a single puff since (cold turkey) and am still in that want to kill someone stage to pass but everytime I feel the urge i look at my pregnancy test and remember why I have stopped!

My aim is to stop cold turkey and NEVER start again :)

Cherrychopsticks · 05/07/2012 12:56

Me too, HappyJulia.
I am still unashamedly chuffed that I did it!
We're all awesome!

Londonmrss · 05/07/2012 13:19

I'd like to politely request that people don't bother coming onto this thread in order to sit in judgement.
Is it so awful to admit we miss something we gave up?
We've quit. We intend to be good mothers and not subject our babies to anything negative. Some of us may smoke again one day, plenty of us won't. Save your judgement for people don't quit- but that isn't anyone who has posted on this thread.
Thanks.

I was really enjoying reading this thread as I have also quit and not ashamed to admit I have craved a ciggie since but not had one. Then, I came to Oceanstwo judgemental and quite frankly laughable post. Personally I'm not going to back to "full time" smoking, but if I want a ciggie with a glass of wine then I shall..... And not around my baby! Which I'm sure is what most people on this thread are intending to do.

Mintyy · 05/07/2012 13:35

I am not going to judge you ladies at all, but I just want to tell you that the BIGGEST REGRET of my life is returning to smoking after pregnancy

You will kick yourselves if you do go back, years down the line.

Anyways, well done all who have quit for pregnancy, it is a bit of an effort but so very worth it.
