Hungry hippos - who else is eating their way through the first trimester?

Somebody tell me I'm not on my own here.

I've gone from crippling nausea to ravenous, empty hunger. I guess the latter is better but now I seem to be eating for Britain - I'm hungry around 30 minutes after eating and just have to snack or else the hunger turns to nausea. I try to stick to healthy things (ryvita/oatcakes + houmous, fruit etc), but what I want is a big, fat pile of carbs.

I'm constantly exhausted and am doing nowhere near as much exercise as usual (even walking to the park with my 14 month old is an ordeal now). I'm only 5'3" so any extra weight really shows. I'm only around 9 1/2 weeks so no bump yet, but I can feel my clothes getting tighter.

I put on around 3 1/2 stone with my last pregnancy and fear I'm going the same way again. I know 'they' say you don't need to eat more in your first trimester, but there's no way that's happening...

Last time I ate constantly for 3 months, as I felt dire unless I was actually eating.
Am hoping it won't be so bad this time, but am only 5 weeks and already pretty hungry, so it's not looking good!

I put on a stone in my first trimester and felt sick unless I was stuffing my face. I'm way heavier than I should be at 20 weeks with a mega bump but I don't think I could have done it any differently. There's a lot of body fascism about putting weight on when you're pregnant. I'm just trying to ignore it.

Glad it's not just me Smile.

mrsalwaysawake, that's me at the moment. Munch munch gobble gobble. I hope that this time around is easier for you.

TheBigRazzoo. It's true, every day I start out telling myself I won't eat as much as the day before, but then that horrible nausea comes calling. So much easier said than done, not sure I could get through the day without nibbling away.

It doesn't help that my husband is as thin as a rake (I weigh more than him when not pregnant).

I think that as long as you're normally as reasonably healthy weight, eating loads in pregnancy is fine. First time round I was happy to eat what I wanted and deal with weight gain (3 stone) afterwards. Luckily, I found that running around after a new baby meant the weight dropped off with no effort at all.

Are you me? I'm 7 weeks with a 15 mo DD. Very hungry and could eat all day. I get nauseous when hungry but also when tired. I think i'm eating to stay awake a lot of the time.

I gained 3 1/2 stone last time and would like to avoid that if possible although I lost it all in the first year.

I am managing walking and the gym so hopefully that will burn some of the calories. Last time I stopped exercising at 4 weeks!

Wiggy29, I was just back to a good weight for me when I fell pregnant again! It took time, but I know I can do it again. I was just trying to avoid putting on
so much weight this time round, but c'est la vie Smile.

I was eating for Britain when pregnant with my DS as I was feeling nauseous on an empty stomach.
The good thing was that I was craving for fruits so was stuffing my face with nectarines, berries and pineapple so it helped not putting on too much weight.

I'm about 8 weeks with my first and I've just had a massive meal of steak pie, potatoes and peas (which followed a snack of bread & Marmite, bombay mix and a couple of rocky road pieces) and I'm already hungry again!!

I ate like a total lard arse first tri as only way could keep nausea at bay. I put on weight but just went with it. Weight gain v much evened out in second tri when sickness went and eating returned to more normal
proportions (sort of...). 33 weeks now and put on about 23 pounds so far so considering i haven't been able to exercise I'm fine with that.
