scan at 6w5d showed embryo a bit small - any success stories??

Am currently 6w6d pg following IVF (a frozen embryo transfer) and at my early scan yesterday the sonographer pointed out the pregnancy sac, yolk sac, foetal pole and a flickering HB - then she went on to say that it looked smaller than it should and that the HB is a bit slow (tbh it was so tiny on the screen I have no idea how she could even tell how fast it was beating) She didn't give me measurements or anything and was a bit vague and unhelpful really. I have to go back for another scan in a week.

Surely if all the above were present this is a good sign right? I have read somewhere that frozen embies can be a little slow to implant and also that the HB starts off slow and increases.

Does anyone have any experience of this and what was the outcome? Is this likely to end badly - do I need to prepare myself for bad news next week?

Thanks in advance!

Honestly it could go either way. Ds I had a scan which showed me 1.5 weeks behind where I thought I should be, a week later he had grown and was fine.
This time I measured right on for dates.
Tbh I would take the fact your baby has a heartbeat as a very positive sign.

Congratulations.

I have absolutely no clue about any of it. Just wanted to say that the fact that there is a heart beat is a fantastic sign and certainly at the moment it's developing as it should.

So early on I think it can depend how the baby is lying. Your next scan will be more informative.

All the best x

Yes I had an early scan at exactly 8 weeks this time. Was quite sure of my dates but the scan put me at 6wks 1d. Fretted all the way to my 12 week scan where it was back to my original date and that is the scan they have used for my edd not the early one. I'm now 31 weeks Smile

It is difficult to date from early scans as they are so small and just a few millimetres can make a huge difference.

Congratulations and good luck Thanks

thanks for the replies.

It's the fact that she mentioned the HB being a bit slow as well as the measurements being out that have worried me. If it had been one or the other, somehow it wouldn't feel so bad...

Hi, I had a scan at about 6 weeks (plus a few days) and the sonographer didn't even bother to measure how fast the hb was, she said it wasn't a good indicator at that early a stage just that it was good that the hb was there. And my sac (didn't even see a fetal pole!) was smaller than dates too. I am now 17 weeks.

Hope you get some more reassurance next week.

thanks minipie - what you say is what I seem to be reading - that it's good that there is a HB and not to worry about how fast at this stage. Glad it all worked out for you.

I'm not sure whether she actually measured the HB or just did it by sight alone - it was just like a flickering in the foetal pole and was so small I doubt she could have got a true reading anyway.

She didn't fill me with confidence to be honest and so I don't really trust what she said (She has scanned me before mid-way through an IVF cycle and got something wrong then) and I know others that don't like her scanning them either - think i will ask for someone else next week.
