I found out when DS1 came out facing the wrong way! I didn't have a horrific labour though, so I think one doesn't always follow the other.

Have you got a birthing ball? They're meant to be good for when you aren't on your hands and knees.

I've had one back to back and one the right way round. I didn't notice a difference except ds who was back to back was all on my right side and I could feel his left shoulder, knee elbow and feet. All movement on the left. Dd was the other way around and I could feel mostly her back down the front of my belly and kicks towards my back. Other than that there was no difference. Both were long painful labours as apparently I have a cervix made of steel.

I am 36+1 and DC flips between ROP (back to my right) and back-to-back. Either I have lots of kicks/punches to my left side or knees out towards my front. I can't tell you how many hours I have spent on my hands and knees (polishing the floor, painting skirting etc etc) but to no avail!
From my understanding you can tell when when they are the right way around as the back is firm and smooth and this can be felt in the centre of the whilst most kicks are towards the back - I so hope that I feel this at some point as from what I have heard back-to-back labours are less than pleasant (that's if labour can ever be considered to be pleasant)!

I had a scan on Friday to check position of baby - she was breach but had managed to turn herself. But now know that she's back to back. To be honest I can't tell, but haven't got anything to compare to with her being number 1. The consultant said best thing to do was keep as active as possible in the hope that she'll turn - same advice I was given about her being breach. I think I know when she turned right way up - had a lot of discomfort! - but don't know if I'll be able to tell whether she's turned or not. I spent a lot of time sitting/bouncing on the birth ball and also leaning over it and rocking. Here's hoping for us all Grin.

lama you'll probably be able to feel the baby turn, I remember it woke me in the middle of the night and I felt really uncomfortable and sick, and like a baby turning! Mine went b2b around 40wks grrr. I spent the whole time on hands and knees, on the ball, swimming on my front, etc. but he stayed b2b. Good luck!

DS went back to back occasionally and I have to say that it was really obvious when he did as, rather than having a solid lump of bum that I could feel in my bump, there was lots of squidge (amniotic fluid) with knobbly bits which were elbows, hands & other limbs. It felt very, very different.
