Did your 3D/4D scan look like your baby?

I think im in the wrong section, but I'm thinking of getting a 3D scan. DH has put me off slightly by saying that they're just models of what the baby looks like and so not likely to look much like them in reality...

Any experiences?

My 4D baby scan looked so much like my DH, I just knew it had to be a boy.
And it was :D

And I never really believed the idea that babies very often looked like either parent, let alone an unborn one :)

Scan at 34 weeks showed a face that looked just like my other children.

With DD2 she was identical in our 4d scan as she was at birth, she even held her hands in the same way.

Yes, my little boy looks just like what he did in his scan at 25 weeks. His little face and his little mouth looked just like how he looked as a sleeping newborn.

Scan at 30 weeks looks just like my son, although his nose was a little squished!

Both of my boys looked just like their 4d picture, i had the 4d scan just a few weeks ago as pregnant with ds3 and he looks the spit of ds2....both 4d scan pictures are virtually the same and i went to a different company this time!

I highly recommend them

Sorry to gatecrash but did those of you who had a 3d scan already know/want to know the sex of the baby?

I am considering getting one when I am 28 weeks but have not found out the gender and do not want to know. I keep getting comments about how it is pointless to have such a detailed scan if I'm not going to find out.

If you had one of the scans but didn't want to know, did they just stay away from the area? Is it even something I would recognise anyway without fully knowing what I am looking for?

I already knew. They asked me before they started if I knew or not and then offered to double check the NHS 20 week scan was correct. If they don't ask, then just say that you want to keep it a surprise. Mostly they focus on the face anyway! There is a risk that you might accidentally see something, especially if it is a boy who is waving his bits at the camera. But if you are prepared for a small risk of possibly recognising something then I'd say it isn't pointless. All the photos I had are of the face, and in the dvd you don't see any lower body in the 3d bits at all. She did measure the leg because it was a growth scan, but you could even ask them not to do that.

I'd say around 28 weeks give or take a couple either side. Once you get much past 30 weeks it is very squashed in there so harder to get a decent view.

I had a 3D scan but didn't know the gender of DS at the time, we just said we didn't want to know and they didn't tell us. One of my friends could tell he was a boy from the DVD (she didn't tell us til after he was born), but me and DH have watched it several times since and I'm blowed if I can see anything!

DS at 19wks had the dinkiest little knobbly knees and came out all plump and chubby of limb.

I mean, I can understand the clinical benefits of scans, and I can appreciate the practical reasons for wanting to know the gender in advance... but I'm not sure I quite get wanting to know what your child will look like. Can anyone explain?

No! On the 3D scan at 20 weeks, DS3 looked like the dessicated corpse of an Egyptian mummy that I had just seen in the British Museum. They gave us a photo that I refused to show to DS1 & 2 in case it was too scary.

When DS3 was born he was adorably handsome and cute and still is.

Having a 2D anomoly scan is the important / useful part, the 3D bit is just for fun.

I had a private 20 week scan and they did some 3D as part of that. In the better pics my girl looked just like she did when she was born. In the bad pics she looked exactly like the aliens from The X Files! Or maybe Gollum. Not good anyway.

We didn't want to know what we were having so no pics were taken that might accidentally reveal it.

I don't think I'd have one of those scans especially, it was very freaky. But as part of the general 20 week scan it was good fun.
