Smell cravings!

Sorry if this has been done! I have NO food cravings at all (am 30wks) but have quite an overwhelming addiction to the smell of green Radox. I had it when pregnant with DD2 too and used to put it in the oil burner!
Also: the smell of Pine Flash
Shield soap (found a bar in the back of my kitchen cupboard, it smells like PROPER SOAP!)
the Fairy liquid my boss has at work- it's a foreign bottle from the pound shop and smells different to regular Fairy and I wash my hands in it rather than the hand soap Blush (super dry hands alert!)

When my friend was pregnant some years ago she used to carry a jam jar of white spirit in her handbag to sniff. Another friend used to stand with her head right inside one of her kitchen cupboards because the smell at the back of it was addictive.
It's not just us, surely? :o

Rubber. Bought kids plimsolls, a rubber mat and a sink plunger to have near me at all times. White spirit not bad but as its a solvent been trying not to inhale it too much. Been hanging out in b and q, bike shops and outside Kwik fit.
The need for the smell is like craving a fag.

Also walking around cheap shoe shops sticking my nose in the wellies.
Had dd 3 days ago and yet to go home but I'm quite sad I won't have the craving anymore as it s so pleasurable satisfying it and totally harmless.

OMG i havent know anyone else who had this, when i was pregnant with my DD now 8yrs I was addicted to the green radox and clean (it had to be wet) washing.... literally as soon as the washing machine was finished i would be diving in and pulling peices of clothing to my face to sniff it, my mother thought it was hilarious, but it was a craving. They both even lasted for a while afterwards and I even bathed my daughter in the green radox just so she would smell of it too....

How peculiar....

My cousin has just said she used to suck sponges full of Radox water when pg... I think they put some stealthy addictive chemical in it!

I used to love the laundry section in the supermarket when pregnant, I would have a sniff of virtually every bottle of fabric softener in the shop! DH would linger at the end of the aisle waiting for me, shaking his head in disbelief every time I looked up at him! Blush

peeriebear · 26/06/2012 15:16

I have been known to do that yodelay... And the hand soaps, the shampoos, the washing up liquids... Blush
I have been very fussy about which wash tabs/liquid/cleaning products I buy. DH dug out an old can of Febreze air freshener I'd put to the back of the cupboard due to its mankness, and he liberally sprayed the car interior with it. I nearly lost my lunch when I got in!

My sister used to sniff car fumes as they drove by :o

Oh, I thought I was the only one who had that! For me it was creosote, petrol, white spirit etc. Hardly harmless, really, but a lot less fattening than the Rolos my colleague claimed to be craving. (Isn't that just normal to crave chocolate, and nothing to do with pregnancy at all!?)

Also, nausea triggered by unpleasant smells - BO, cigarette smoke, could hardly make it to the station on bin day. Obviously, rubbish always smells bad, but I can usually manage to not be sick when I smell it...

orangewellies · 26/06/2012 16:47

For me it was bonfire smoke - couldn't get enough of it! And I def get the clean washing thing (bit of a contrast to the smoke Confused)

Also the opposite with some smells - I can't smell a particular fragrance of imperial leather shower gel even now without it making me want to retch...!

Clean washing, but when it's just been in the tumble drier, with some sainsburys tumble drier sheets!
