Help - very worried

I am just over six weeks pregnant - this is my first time pregnant. I've had lots of so-called pregnancy symptoms for the last two weeks - nausea, extreme tiredness, headaches, sore breasts, needing to go to the toilet more often etc. Last night when I went to toilet, there was a tiny amount of blood (a pink-red colour) when I wiped. There was nothing in the toilet or anywhere else. When I went to check if there was still any blood a short while later, there was absolutely nothing and there is nothing this morning. I am really frightened that this is the start of a MC. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Sorry if there is TMI here, I just don't know who else to ask. Thanks.

The exact same thing happened to me and it turned out to be fine, I'm now 18 weeks. I didn't know how common spotting and bleeds are in early pregnancy until I spoke to a midwife. There could be many reasons, apparently it's quite common to have a light bleed around the time your period would have been due.

Having said that any unexpected bleed needs to be checked out so go see your GP today, ask for an emergency appointment and explain and then ask to be referred to your nearest early pregnancy unit for a scan. Or ring your midwife for advice. X

I had exactly the same experience in my current pregnancy when I was at about 10 weeks!

I went to A&E when it happened to me, waited for hours and they checked my BP and urine then told me (rather brusquely) that bleeding in early pregnancy is normal and that I shouldn't have bothered to come in. Charming! I asked about them checking for a heartbeat and got a 'oh no, we don't have a doppler and wouldn't know how to use it anyway'

Therefore, if you are truly worried I would suggest ringing your midwife and asking for a reassuring heartbeat check. Later on in pregnancy (because I think you're probably fine) I'd suggest going to your local labour ward if you have any immediate worries (call them first, obviously).

what you describe is very common in early pregnancy, and it can be just the process of bean dislodging material when he/she burrows in. Lots of women have bleeding of all descriptions and it can be fine. BUT OTOH it could be the start of a MC, it's just a horrible case of wait and see, I'm sorry :(

I would ring the early pregnancy unit at your hospital and ask for an emergency scan never ignore bleeding in pregnancy always best to be safe than sorry. It is probably just normal spotting but always check it out - I'm talking from experience.

I had a light bleed at about 8/9 weeks, coincidentally on the morning of a day when I was booked in for an extra scan at the early pregnancy unit anyway. Baby was fine and the doctor showed me on the scanning machine the little patch on my cervix which was where the bleeding was coming from, well away from the pregnancy. He said that the hormonal changes of pregnancy can make your cervix extra tender and a bit of bleeding from it is very common. So it could be that.

I have also had two early losses (at 5 and 4+ weeks) and in both cases the bleeding became heavier (and obviously an early loss) quite quickly. I think it's good advice to ring your local early pregnancy unit and see if they will scan you to put your mind at rest. I had a scan at exactly 6 weeks in this pregnancy as I was in hospital (hyperemesis) and there's not a lot to see but they were able to confirm a viable pregnancy - my baby at that stage was about the size of a lentil with a teensy tiny flickering heartbeat.

Thank you for all your replies. I've seen the doctor, who says that this is very common. I've got an appointment at the Early Pregnancy Unit on Tuesday so hopefully everything will be ok. I've not had anything since and I still have the nausea etc so hoping all is ok!
