When are you supposed to have a GTT done?

My MW said I should have the GTT due to family history. But she never told me when. Anyway at the 16 week appointment she was a bit rubbish and never mentioned it (probably due to totally failing to read my notes, I was not impressed). Anyway as it is my 2nd I do not see her again 'till 28 weeks and can not remember when I had it with my 1st. I am sure it was early than this. Also I seem to have suddenly really expanded Blush so am aware of being cautions of GD.

So when are you supposed to have the test? Should I ring MW to gently prompt her that it is needed? Or am I worrying about noting?

I am 22w BTW.

I'm sure it should be done before 28 weeks. Mine was scheduled in at 24 weeks. I'd ring up and make sure she has remembered because I would have thought you'd have had your appointment through by now.

mine was at 28 weeks.

signet2012 · 25/06/2012 20:56

I had one at 17 weeks and got told at 25 weeks it had been done too early. Had my second one today at 31 weeks do that's probably too late now Angry

EmptyCrispPackets · 25/06/2012 21:08

It should be done around 28 weeks, no sooner than 26 as it can give false negative results.

OK will call the MW tomorrow to 'check'.

Thanks for responses!

usually between 24-28 weeks according the NICE guidelines. Normally this appointment comes directly from the hospital, so it worth checking that you are 'in the system' for this. Don't wait for the midwife to mention important things HelloBear, I see upwards of 20 women in a clinic and the appointments are scheduled for between5-10 minutes so if it is important, make sure it is the first thing out of your mouth! If I ask a woman and she says she is ok and has no concerns I have no reason not to accept this! (Bear in mind that I am supposed to wash my hands between patients for 2 minutes according to infection control so that leaves us between 3-8 minutes for everything else! Shock

Mine is scheduled for 24 weeks.

HappyCamel · 25/06/2012 21:45

24 to 28 weeks unless you've had GD before, in which case you have it at 16 weeks and again in the later window if the first one is negative.

I'm having mine at 28 weeks.
