Did anyone else find comments about their weight when pregnant really grating. I know it shouldn't be and it's only said lightheartedly but comments like this:

Mum: (surveying me as I lay on her sofa) "you don't look very fat yet"

and

Work colleague: "cor you've got some bump when you turn to the side" (actually it's bloating, i'm only 15 weeks)

really test my patience.

Maybe i'm having a hormonal day.......

I have been nicknamed 'podge' by some at work, especially unhelpful as I have suffered eating disorders in the past!

Mummyof3tobe · 25/06/2012 13:03

Deeply irritating I agree. This weekend I had "wow you look really pregnant" (er, well, yes, maybe because I am??) and "you look even bigger than when I saw you last week" (jolly good, that means the baby is GROWING then!)

I don't think I'll be able to bite my tongue for another 23+weeks.....

It seems everyone has an opinion on how you should look now you are pregnant Angry

I pulled someone up the other day after she used the word "fat" to describe me twice- she soon apologised!

SimplySoo · 25/06/2012 13:47

Yeah, I had 'hello fatty' as a greeting from my Sil, but she hadn't seen me since I've been pregnant, probably would've said it whatever I looked like. I feel like I look fat, 22 weeks and pudgy!

WeeDot · 25/06/2012 15:51

some more lovely comments at work this afternoon:

"you only weight 16 stone now don't you?" (i'm actually 8 stone)

"watch out you'll need a hoist to get around soon"

I'm thinking of playing them at their own game maybe start with.....

"oh you've packed on the pounds recently haven't you or did you just forget to take a s**t this morning?"

My mil insists on calling my bump a 'lump' which just sounds like I have some terrible illness. Very unattractive word!!

i like your comeback WeeDot

it's amazing how people think you've grown a thick skin or don't care about your weight just because your pregnant. there was a woman at my office during my last pregnancy who i only saw once a week but every time i did she said "are you sure you're not having twins?!" i took it for a while but eventually snapped at ther -"no i'm just REALLY fat!" she left me alone after that but i was left feeling like i was really mean :/

WeeDot · 25/06/2012 18:43

hzgreen I've got the same problem with a woman in my office. I don't think she realises how sensitive a subject a woman's weight is. Good on you for saying something to her

Not a comment about how I looked but a very young (male) student announced VERY loudly across a open plan office 'wow you are having a packet of crisps it is only 9.30am'. He was implying 'you'll get fat'. I was not impressed, I have taken the piss out of him about it since. Cheeky t**t.

twizzlestix · 25/06/2012 21:23

My own mother refers to me as fatty on a regular basis! Drives me insane, my husband tells me to say 'I'm growing a person, what's your excuse?' Have to say I've come close but I've kept it in so far...9 more weeks to go.

Work colleagues constantly tell me i'm huge and go on and on about twins. This didn't bother me initially but it's beginning to grate now especially as I'm measuring small for my dates and despite being 31 weeks, I weigh 6lb less than my pre-pregnancy weight!
