She has a vest, baby grow, cardi and hat plus a blanket do I need to take a pram suit?how many nappies do you take and breast/maternity pads?i figure of I run out the hospital will have spares but how many is reasonable?help!!! Thanks :)

Hi sparkles come join us on the August thread! :)

I will be in a few days so am taking a bit more than others initially but heres my list: (I'd say prob too hot for pram suit?)

3 vests & 3 baby sleep suits (in built scratch mitts)
2 hats
Cardy & outfit for coming home
Blanket (some hospitals have and some don't)
Half pack nappies
Small pack wipes
I plan to BF so no formula

2 packs mat pads
Few reusable breast pads
Nipple cream
Nursing bra
Toiletries
Pack of dark granny knickers
Dark towel
Dark PJs/nighties/dressing gown dep. what you fancy
Flip flops/socks
Comfy coming home clothes
Few snacks
Camera/charger etc.

I took enough stuff to last 24hr. Therefore, if we needed to stay in longer, Dh could bring stuff in. I packed-

3vests/body suits
3baby gros
Blanket
Cotton wool
10nappies
Muslins
A whole pack of maternity pads
About 10 breast pads

I would not bother with pram suit in august and you have a blanket if necessary.

Cheers Smile I can't find the August thread I was on the 1st but haven't seen the subsequent ones! I assumed I could get cotton wool in hospital?im debating between bf and ff but I guess if I don't take formula I will be more motivated to bf and if I need formula they can give me some? Do I need a nighty for labour then clean pjs for after? Thanks Smile

I don't know whether they give you formula, maybe ask your MW? You can get those small packs of ready mixed formula so you could always get a few of those initially for convenience and see how you get on. I got 3 small bottles with the teets that are supposed to be like nips - maybe you want something similar if you're not sure on feeding yet? Also heard if you do plan to FF not to get loads of bottles as some babies like different makes.

Yep, I'm going cheapy dark nightie for labour and clean PJs or another nightie afterwards. Got most of it from Primark as they actually have some nice cotton ones that are only less than £5 which is a good throwaway.

HTH :)

When I had my last 2, the midwives provided formula (it was those little glass bottles ready made up) with disposable teats as sterilising etc I think would have been too much for the already overstretched mw's .

I took a nightie for labour and pjs for after plus a dressing gown and slippers. I took flip flops to wear in the shower on advice of other mums! I also took big knickers (the ones that come up high-level granny style!), as theseare really comfy on your wobbly empty bump and also, if like me, you need an EMCS (in sure you Sony though) they don't irritate your scar/dressing.

*won't not Sony ! Damn autocorrect!

Sparkles, I remember you from the older August threads. MNHQ moved us from the Pregnancy section to the Ante-Natal section. Look for us there, we're on Thread Number 5.... :)

yellowflowers · 25/06/2012 08:47

I would take more - could be several socks and poos in that time. I also had an extra bag packed for dd1 that dh brought in once it was apparent we'd be in for a few days

GnocchiNineDoors · 25/06/2012 08:51

Yes take something to labour/ deliver in and a freah nighty/pjs to get into fresh after recovery. If you plan to BF Primark do vests wirh buttons down for access.

Dark pj bottoms so if you bleed onto them it doesnt show

Big knickers

I dont know about anyone else but I didnt use a single breastpad in hospital as my milk didnt come in till Id be home two days and my colostrum didnt leak.
