I don't really know how far along I am, the online calculator said 5 weeks but it could be more or less. How will I know for sure?

Also, I have been feeling nauseous in the morning, today was particularly bad but I was still able to eat a hearty breakfast. When will the vomiting start?

My breasts were incredibly sore since my last period 3 May: so bad I found it hard to get comfortable at night. Now they still feel heavy but not as sore; is this something to worry about?

This is bad- I had a hot stone massage using essential oils a few weeks ago - could this have done damage?

I am going to USA on 25th July, will this be ok? How will I cope with the vomiting in the heat? Confused

Also, last thing, I used SBC lavender oil shower gel for the last few weeks and I saw today it says 'not recommended in first 12 weeks of pregnancy'.

Oh one last last thing, I have gone off coffee and am sneezing all the time, why?

Sorry, I'm really clueless about pregnancy. Thanks if you are still reading.

congratulations firstly.!!!

I really don't think anything you have done there will be a danger.

The sneezing i can't help you with, but it's not a problem. The coffee, becuase your tastebuds will go crackers.

The trip to the USA, well morning sickness isn't nice anywhere, so you will have to cope with that i am afraid.

You won't know for sure until your first scan, how pg you are, but do you think you had a proper period, did your period start on May 3rd?

Mollydoggerson · 23/06/2012 19:58

Congratulations. I think you need to buy 'What to expect when expecting',

You may never vomit.
Breast tendderness is normal.
I wouldn't worry about the massage or shower gel, the baby is a clump of cells at the moment.
Coffee is not good for you and your body knows so you don't want it, Rhe sneesing, i think pregnancy affects the membranes in your nose.

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 23/06/2012 19:59

I'll give it a whirl!

"don't really know how far along I am, the online calculator said 5 weeks but it could be more or less. How will I know for sure?"

Your 12 week scan will give you a more accurate date

"Also, I have been feeling nauseous in the morning, today was particularly bad but I was still able to eat a hearty breakfast. When will the vomiting start?"

How long is a piece of string. Maybe never, if you are lucky!

"My breasts were incredibly sore since my last period 3 May: so bad I found it hard to get comfortable at night. Now they still feel heavy but not as sore; is this something to worry about?"

Very common!

"This is bad- I had a hot stone massage using essential oils a few weeks ago - could this have done damage?"

Nah, you'll be fine. It's only a very few essential oils and even that is super cautious.

"I am going to USA on 25th July, will this be ok? How will I cope with the vomiting in the heat? "

See above

"Also, last thing, I used SBC lavender oil shower gel for the last few weeks and I saw today it says 'not recommended in first 12 weeks of pregnancy'."

See above

"Oh one last last thing, I have gone off coffee and am sneezing all the time, why?"

No idea about the sneezing, but going off coffee is really common. I did. You might find the urge comes back after 12 weeks or so.

See, all dead simple really Grin

piratecat · 23/06/2012 19:59

You may not vomit, i never did just felt like i was going to all the time. My sickness was mainly in the evening.

The book, what to expect when you're expecting was sent over to me by my friend in the states, this was yrs back. You can get the Uk version, and it's really really good. so many brill questions and answers.

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 23/06/2012 19:59

Not What to Expect. It's hysterical in tone. Buy the nice Lesly Regan book. All v reassuring!

piratecat · 23/06/2012 20:00

Smile @ molly. tis a great book.

the whole series is great.

goingmadtrying · 23/06/2012 20:01

Congrats i think its fair to say you are pregnant Grin

You won't necessarily start being sick,I felt sick lots but was never actually sick, you may be lucky :)

Heavy sore boobs is normal, mine hurt for a few weeks, and then calmed down, im 34 weeks and they have just started to hurt again

Im not sure about the massage or shower gel, but im sure you will be fine, mention it to your mw when you book in

in terms of the usa, you should be ok however will you be around 12 weeks then?? Nuchal scans can only be done around certain weeks so if your area offers these you may have a problem getting one (this is to do with the downs tests)

Going off coffee is normal and not a bad thing, decaf and fruit teas are recommended :)

Contact your gp and try and get a dating scan this will help you understand where things are at

congratulations again :)

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:01

Yes period started 3rd may.

OP posts:
blueberryboybait · 23/06/2012 20:02

If your last period was 3rd may you are probably more like 7 weeks!

I had a constantly runny or blocked nose in the first 12 weeks and sneezed all the time - all your mucous membranes swell in pregnancy and it made me more prone to hayfever.

Lavender stuff will be fine in shower gel it is a precautionary measure.

Flying is fine although you may be slightly more tired and feeling queasy. drink loads of water, wear flight socks keep moving during the flight.

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:03

I don't know of this matters but I have long and fairly irregular cycles, usually around 42 days.

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:03

Thanks for all these speedy answers by the way!!

melliebobs · 23/06/2012 20:04

Congratulations

As for finding out how far along you are you can get a rough idea with the calculators. But won't know for sure until you've had a dating scan around 10-12 weeks

Not everyone gets morning sickness (I didn't) so don't worry. You'll b fine on your trip too. Don't let pregnancy stop you doing anything.

Try not to worry about symptoms like sore boobs and nausea. They come and go. So if ur boos aren't sore one day it doesn't necessarily mean something bad

Get on the folic acid. Cut out the alcohol. Try and carry on as normal and you can't go fat wrong

girliefriend · 23/06/2012 20:05

Haha this thread has made me Grin Congrats!!!

Morning sickness is weird and not like any other sickness I have had, I used to feel really sick, occasionally throw up and then sit down and stuff my face!!!

Sore boobs - very normal, hormones!!!

Change to decaf tea/coffee as too much caffine can increase the risk of miscarriage I think (now wondering if this is an old wives tale Hmm )

All the other stuff I wouldn't worry about, get yourself off to the Drs and they will start talking you through all the need to know stuff.

blueberryboybait · 23/06/2012 20:05

If you look on the NHS calculator it gives you the options to change your cycle length. Ring your GP on Monday and see what their procedure re. midwives is, our surgery gives you the mw number and you organise it all yourself from there.

goingmadtrying · 23/06/2012 20:06

It will make a difference, my cycles were always around 31 ish days and i was a week less than the normal cycles dated me, the only true way to know is the dating scan, have you done another digital test?

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:08

I have a doctors appointment on 2 July, will it be ok to wait to then?

Oh my goodness, there is something else... I think this really is bad. I had a smear test about 4 weeks ago. I honestly didn't even think I was pregnant. What will happen? I can't believe I forgot to add that to my list. I feel totally clueless Blush

OP posts:
Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:09

No only did one digital test and the others were cheap amazon ones. Do you think it might not be right?

OP posts:
goingmadtrying · 23/06/2012 20:10

I doubt it as you probably wasn't actually pregnant then :)

goingmadtrying · 23/06/2012 20:11

No not at all try not to worry i would say you are definitely pregnant, how many weeks did the digital.say?

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:11

I was, definitely!

OP posts:
Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 20:12

Digital one said 3+ weeks

OP posts:
goingmadtrying · 23/06/2012 20:16

Was your last period a proper one?? Say it was, you would have likely ovulated around the 24th may and pg implanted after that, what date was smear. i also think if it was going to do any harm it would have by now, the digital test is saying your at least 5 weeks pg as you add 2 weeks on x

TheHouseofMirth · 23/06/2012 20:16

Congratulations!

I think 5 weeks is about right for that cycle length. Though when you visit GP they don't take cycle length into account I don't think. Don't suppose you know the conception date?

If you are concerned you may miss the window for your nuchal scan then most hospitals have an early pregnancy unit where you can self-refer for an early scan to verify your dates.

InvaderZim · 23/06/2012 20:18

In the US they do smears during pregnancy so that is totally not a problem.

Number44 · 23/06/2012 20:18

Congratulations. Phone your dr's surgery they probably won't want you to see an actual dr but will make you a 'booking in' appointment with a midwife
